toward the boy who is standing at your left.) James, I will hold your end of the string while you see whether the ring can now be removed. (While the ring is being unloopeJ easily by this boy, slide the original ring in the hand off the end of the string and into your pocket.) When the angel came to Peter, awak ened him, and led him out of the prison, Peter experienced the truth expressed in Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trou ble.” God is willing to help His people today as truly as He helped the Psalm ist and Peter.

not allow the boys to stand so far apart that the string is held taut.) While Peter was wondering how he could get out of prison, the church was praying for him. The white cloth, which I am placing over the ring, will remind us of the prayers with which Peter was surrounded. (While the white cloth covers the ring, make a loop in the string and slip the second ring, which has been con cealed in the left hand, over the loop. Slip the loop which has gone through the ring back over and around the ring. This will cause the string to hold the ring temporarily. With the original ring concealed in the left hand, move

forts and helps you. How grateful you are! God, our heavenly Father, gives the sweetest kind of comfort to His

people when they are in trouble. Our lesson tells about it. LESSON STORY: Because they were sinful and disobed ient, the Lord’s peo ple suffered great- l y ; s in a l w a y s b r i n g s pain. The best comfort that

God could give them was in providing a Saviour, our Lord Jesus Christ. You remember that before Jesus came, John Division the Baptist told every one he could about the wonderful fact that the Lord Jesús was coming. And John was enabled, too, to look away into the future, when—through Jesus—“the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together” (Isa. 40:5). The Word tells us that during many, many years, grass would wither, flow ers would fade, people would live and die—that is, there would be trouble and sorrow. But “the word of our God shall stand for ever” (v. 8), and what is written in the Word of God will surely come to pass. And what did God promise ? He said, “Jehovah will come as a mighty one” (v. 10, R. V.).. He said He would “feed his flock like a shepherd.” He said His people would be like lambs, and He would gently “carry them in his bosom” (v, 11). And no matter what would take place, His children could count on His strength and His tender love. Have you received the Shepherd-Jesus as your very own Saviour?

OBJECTS: A black string, about eight feet long, two identical finger rings, and a white cloth. (The rings can be secured at the variety store. Thread one ring on the black string, and conceal the other in the left hand.) LESSON: This beautiful ring on this black cord reminds me of Peter in prison. Peter was kept in prison against his wishes. There appeared to be no way for him to get free from the prison cell. James and David, will you please come to the platform to help me? You boys hold the ends of the string tightly to keep the ring from getting off. (Do
