Chundy Land and Cattle - Annual Bull Sale [3/21/26]

Maternal Programs & Focus

At Chundy Land & Cattle, true performance starts with the cow. Our commitment is to raise females that are consistent, functional, and built for longevity — cows that maintain themselves, breed back efficiently, and raise calves that thrive in real-world conditions. To achieve this, we focus on enhancing maternal traits through disciplined selection and two primary programs: • Maternal Plus (Angus cows): This program emphasizes fertility, milk production, structural soundness, and longevity, helping us identify and retain females that consistently produce high- performing calves while maintaining themselves year after year. • Total Herd Enrollment (THE) (SimAngus cows): THE allows us to track and evaluate every female in the herd, using performance data to select for balanced growth, maternal ability, and reproductive efficiency. These programs are critical tools in our mission to produce females that combine maternal excellence with real-world efficiency, supporting commercial producers in maximizing pounds weaned and profitability with fewer inputs. We’ve included additional information from each program to provide insight into how these tools guide our selection decisions and help maintain the consistency and quality our customers expect from Chundy Land & Cattle.

Maternal Plus: This program goes beyond reporting only the calves you plan to register. It encourages the collection and submission of data on all females, regardless of the calf’s registration status. By doing so, it helps better characterize both individual and herd productivity. The

program also ensures that donor cows and females producing high-quality commercial calves are recognized and credited for their contributions.

Total Herd Enrollment (THE): While a wealth of information is routinely collected on sires, tracking dams presents a unique challenge. We are proud participants of the American Simmental Association’s Total Herd Enrollment (THE) program. THE is a dam inventory program specifically

designed to monitor each dam’s productivity and her genetic influence on her progeny. By submitting data annually, thousands of breeders help make it possible to calculate maternal trait EPDs with greater accuracy. This, in turn, empowers breeders like you to make more informed selection decisions by identifying the highest-performing cows in your herd.
