Crest Ink - Volume 30 - Number 03

Fred and Elsie – They were also our neighbors. They were quite old and Elsie used to chase Fred around the yard with a broom when she got mad at him. They were also quite deaf, so on summer nights we wouldn’t have to turn up the sound on the TV if we were watching the same channel because you could hear theirs for several blocks. Every little town had their cast of personalities – these were just some of the ones who brought a little extra char- acter to Ashton in the 1960’s. I’ve always said it’s a good thing to be a little different…maybe that philosophy came from the community that helped to raise me. Rick Rice & Family, Newest US Permanent Residents!

May 1st was an epic day in the Rice family. Rick, Engineering Product Development Technician for the Contract Packaging Division joined the ranks of Crest Foods employees in May of 2011. In May of 2018 Rick, his wife Anne and daughter Stephanie, joined the ranks of millions of other who were granted their Permanent Resident (Green Card) Status. Below are Rick’s comments about his journey to this day: I have long wanted to pursue US citizenship. My dad was born in De- troit and through a strange loophole of the system, I found my attempts thwarted through this seemingly obvious path. My career, however, has given me the opportunity to work all over these United States. I have been fortunate to travel to 5 of the 7 continents, living and working in coun- tries I could only have dreamed of as a youngster but it was the many years that I was able to spend in the mid-west that was an influence on my choice of Crest Foods as destination. The warmth with which your fam-

ily (Crest Foods) has welcomed mine into the fold has been the experience of a lifetime. The culture you have creat- ed is fully embraced by the employees and that makes this the best company I have ever worked for. The length you will go to, both as a company and as individuals, to support the people that work for you is unparalleled. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you and your family for believing in me and helping me to pursue my long-time dream to pursue U.S. citizenship. Anne and I appreciate the length to which you have gone to support us in what has turned out to be a very long journey. I am looking forward to putting immigration concerns to rest...for a little while. Five years less 90 days from today; I fully intended to file an application for full citizenship. I will continue to build on the successes that we have had at Crest Foods during my tenure, and look forward to many years together with my Crest family, co-workers and friends. Thanks again for all your support during what became a very long journey. Anne and I feel that it was well worth every moment and hope that you feel the same about us. The Basics of Excel

44 Crest Foods employees recently took advantage of free on-site classes about the Basics of Excel! Thanks to Marci and SVCC for bringing over their mobile lab. We look forward to having them back to teach more classes about Excel in the near future!
