DIRECTOR ’ S NOTES
In late 2019 I was asked by friend and former colleague, Jayne Barker to go with her to see ‘ Bring It On the Musical ’. She raved about the show as she had seen it before and mentioned it was one of her all - time favourites. So I went, along with Marc Heenan and we were blown away. During intermission, I posed the question to Jayne and Marc, ‘ Could we do this musical at The Lakes? ’ We all agreed that it would suit our students and we could put on an amazing performance. All systems were go for our production hot the stage in 2020. However, with the circumstances around the world, we were left with no alternative than to cancel. We felt like we had unfinished business with this production and were led to finish what we had started.
We began auditions in the middle of 2022 and it was then that I knew this production was going to be outstanding. Our students at The Lakes have given their everything for this show. Their energy and enthusiasm have been inspirational. They have grown as a little family and have supported and encouraged each other throughout the entire experience. We have been so fortunate to have Mischa Wright working with us on the choreography for the show. Mischa is a part of The Lakes Alumni and has given so much of her time to create and teach some of the incredible dances on display. We have also had students take on leadership roles with choreography as well, which we are so grateful for. ‘ Bring It On the Musical ’ is filled with the complexities of friendship, jealousy, betrayal and forgiveness. It teaches us to love the skin we are in and to accept each other, despite our differences. It has been an incredibly rewarding journey to direct this production of ‘ Bring It On the Musical ’. We wish to dedicate our performance to Jayne Barker and hope she enjoys watching it from heaven.
We hope that you too will enjoy the show and can celebrate with us the achievements of our Lakes Legends. - Aimee F
STUDENT REFLECTIONS
This year ’ s production of Bring It On has been a long time coming. After
being cancelled two years in a row because of Covid the anticipation was
high! We have been working hard on the performance since last year and
we have formed really close bonds with our castmates. Not only have I
become closer with my friends, but I ’ ve created long lasting friendships
with people from other year levels. It has been an incredibly rewarding
experience and I have so many memories and stories that I will never
forget. – Charlotte A
Production is a one - off experience that no one should pass by. “ There ’ s
something for everyone in production ” is what I was told when I was
pondering whether to audition, and it really is true. If you don ’ t like dancing
you can act, if you don ’ t like performing you can work backstage and if you
don ’ t want to be main cast you can definitely be ensemble but regardless of
which equally important role you may take up you will still meet so many
new people and have a pretty awesome time. – Ben M
As my last year at school is coming to an end, I am so glad that the
production has been a part of the experience. After postponing it for a few
years, the anticipation and excitement grew. Watching everyone shine
throughout all elements has been so amazing to see and I wholeheartedly
believe this will be the best production yet (maybe even better than Shrek!)
and I can't wait to go out with a bang! Through the production I have
created tight friendships with so many talented kids in younger year levels
who have been nothing short of spectacular and I know they will continue
to produce fantastic productions in the future! Production has always been
my comfort zone where I could express myself without feeling embarrassed
or nervous with respectful and kind students and teachers. Although
saddened that I'll never experience the joys of being in a high school
production ever again, I am super super excited and proud at myself and
everyone else's hard work towards this production and for making my last
schools musical memorable! Bring it on! – Adrian S
Production is an experience that you only live through a couple times in
your life. The people you meet and the friends you make whilst in
rehearsals are all so encouraging and wonderful to be around. There was
never a dull moment and I'm glad I took a chance at auditioning in the first
place as it would have been a shame to miss out on the memories being
made with the whole production Crew. It is surely something I will never
regret and will always smile at when I look back on . – Harmony O
Over the course of this musical's production, there have been many
obstacles that were difficult to overcome. However, this is not to say that
it wasn't fun - quite the contrary. While working on this production, I
strengthened both my friendships and skills and made new ones. If given
the chance again, I would join this production again without any
hesitation. – Mason M
School productions at The Lakes are meaningful for those involved
because they offer a unique opportunity for students to showcase their
talents and creativity in front of their peers, family and community. I have
been very lucky to experience and be a part of many productions at The
Lakes. Whether it be a class dance number, a role in the ensemble or a
character in the main cast, it was the supportive and endlessly fun
environment that brought me back every time to kindle my passion for
entertaining. Being a part of so many stage shows has really been a
highlight of my school life. It ’ s quite bittersweet that it is all coming to an
end this year after so many great memories and experiences, but also
very rewarding to be able to present a highly anticipated production like
no other one last time. It has been one long process that came with a lot
of setbacks, but we are back and better than ever!
