Where does the Shepherd fold His flock? Prov. 16:11; 17:15; 2 Cor. 5:1; John 14: 1-3. PRACTICAL POINTS (1) Here is a prophetic picture of the Shepherd and sheep which will hold good while He is God. (2) This psalm is the song of the soul that is centered in Christ." (3) The Shepherd is good because He is God. (4) Whoever can say “The Lord is my Shepherd’’ can also say “I shall not want.” (5) Because of what the Shepherd is, we have what the Shephard has. (6) Well-fed sheep are found in well- watered pastures. (7) In the valley of death we can view with delight the table of our Lord. (8) When the Spirit infills, the cup over flows. (9) The prepared table, the perfumed oil and the plentiful cup are pledges of an abundant supply. (10) The goal of the pilgrim journey is the palace of the King. (11) The good Shepherd gives His life for the sheep. The great Shepherd feeds his sheep (Heb. 13:20). The chief Shep herd gives a crown to his sheep (1 Peter 5:4). 1
Does He give them refreshment? Rev. 7:17. Does He revigorate them? Isa. 57:15. Does He give them recreation? Prov. 3:17. (2) Protection, v. 4. Whose presence protects the sheep ? Isa. 45:5; 44:2. Need the sheep feaer any evil? Acts 12: 6-7. Why need they not fear? Ps. 46:11; Isa. 43:1, 2. Will they pass under the rod? Ezek. 20: 37; 1 Cor. 4:21. Will they be sustained by his staff? Isa. 41:10. . (3) Prepared, v. 5. He changes the figure from a sheep to a saint. What table is prepared? Matt. 26: 26-29; Luke 14:22-25; John 6:53-56. How is the head anointed ? Ps. 45:7; 2 Cor. 1:21; 1 John 2:26, 27. Why does the cup run over? Ps. 116:13; Eph. 1:3; 3 :20. What is the cup ? 1 Cor. 10:16. (4) Preservation, v. 6. Who goes before the sheep? John 10:4. What attending angels follow after? Ezek. 34:6; Ps. 27:13. Are goodness and mercy the attending angels? 1 Cor. 1:10; 2 Tim. 4:18.
