to feel most heavily the burden of man’s guilt ; His heart that clung with utterly un paralleled love to God was beginning to feel thé tearing agony of separation from the Father necessitated by.man’s sin. There was an awful storm of bewilderment and agony sweeping over the Saviour’s whole being (Mark 14:33). His heart was at the
point.of breaking (Luke 22:44) as it did indeed break at last on the cross. It was all for us that He suffered thus (Is. 53:5, 6). He bade the three watch while He presses still further into the shadows of the Garden. He longed for company and yet He longed still more to be alone with God.
