Whether it’s Superman weaving in and out of the clouds, Spiderman swinging After college, I got into law school at South Carolina School of Law, and during my first year, the professors had all of us practice trials in the classroom. That was
from one skyscraper to the next, Captain America protecting the world from evil using his special vibranium shield, or the Hulk using his super strength to bring down an entire fleet of villains, there is likely a superhero out there that can inspire every child. Kids’ enthusiasm regarding these comic book characters makes perfect sense. But when I was a child, I was inspired by a different kind of hero: the ones in the courtroom. Following my parents’ divorce when I was 3 years old, my mom went to night school to become a court reporter. Back in the ‘80s, software didn’t work as efficiently as it does now. So after my mom spent a long day in the courtroom transcribing every word spoken during the trial, she had to come home and edit those transcripts manually. I took note of how arduously she worked, and once I was old enough to do so, I earned my allowance by helping her edit at night. As I read those depositions, I closely followed the narrative of the case, paying special attention to the words spoken by the lawyers. Those lawyers quickly became my own personal heroes, and from then on, I decided I wanted to follow in their footsteps.
when I really developed an interest for trial law. Then after that first year, I had the opportunity to intern with a trial law firm, and I knew from then on that I had found the area I
wanted to focus in. It offered me the privilege of getting to help real people who truly needed it. The work is both challenging and stimulating because so many of the plaintiffs have been injured through no fault of their own. In so many of these cases, the clients were hardworking people whose injuries caused major disruptions in their lives and who were being taken advantage of by insurance companies. The satisfaction of being able to apply the skills I learned growing up and the ones I learned in law school to really make a difference in someone’s life was and still is a major reason why I am passionate about the work I do. For nearly 20 years, I’ve been able to serve as a partner attorney at Howell & Christmas Law Firm as an instrument to help these clients get their lives back. I am pleased to announce that I will continue to serve people through my new firm, Christmas Law Firm. As of June 1, 2018, our new Summerville office has been open. We are excited to officially serve the Berkeley County area, and we’re especially ecstatic to be closer to so many of our clients, which will make their commute to our offices less difficult. What Exactly Is an Ugly Sweater Party?
It’s speculated that the first ugly sweater party took place in Vancouver, Canada, back in 2001. Since then, the trend has become one of the most popular holiday party themes. Come Thanksgiving, you’ll start to see racks in all types of clothing stores lined with hideous sweaters. If you’re ready to jump on the ugly-sweater-party bandwagon this Christmas season, here are a few things to keep in mind. Your Very Own Ugly Sweater Ugly sweaters come in all shapes, sizes, and prices. You can head to H&M or a local thrift store to pick one up. However, if you have a sweater that’s been cozied up for years in the back of your closet or a drawer, now’s your chance to give it new life. Arm yourself with a hot glue gun, thread, and needle, and patch Santa, Rudolph, or Frosty on it. And let it be known that an ugly sweater isn’t complete without sparkles, beads, and sequins galore.
It’s rather simple — slip on your favorite Christmas sweater, gather all your friends and family members, make sure there are plenty of refreshments and games, and you’re guaranteed to have a top-tier party. A few ugly-sweater-themed games that should be on the agenda include an ugly gift exchange, which is similar to the white elephant exchange, except with the gaudiest gifts you can find; an ugly photo booth, complete with terrible, tacky props; and, of course, an ugly sweater contest. This is the only time of year when slipping into a lurid red sweater with a stuffed Santa sewn on the front is considered trendy. So adorn yourself in the frumpiest, tackiest sweater you can find, and have some fun this December!

In the last several decades, there has been a significant conversation in the U.S. about the alleged need to rein in frivolous lawsuits due to the media coverage of high settlements. But what many people don’t realize is that these types of settlements get the most media coverage due to their rarity. The news media doesn’t cover the kinds of settlements and verdicts happening in county courthouses and lawyers’ offices around the country every day — the ones that help an injured person seek justice and pay medical bills after someone caused them harm. It is for this reason that our team here at Christmas Law Firm wants to highlight a recent case where Gary Christmas was able to help an injured client get the help he desperately needed after he was injured through no fault of his own. Last year, a program manager and fire chief was injured while he was working overseas. After a severe storm, he was walking down some exterior stairs that were completely covered in snow and ice, which caused him to slip and fall. The fall resulted in
injuries to his lumbar spine, left hip, left knee, and left lower jaw. The fall also caused the client to suffer from trigeminal neuralgia, a chronic pain condition. The trigeminal nerve is responsible for carrying sensation from your face to your brain. This subsequent condition can trigger jolts of excruciating pain throughout a person’s body when they experience even mild stimulation to their face — brushing one’s teeth or even putting on sunscreen is often extremely painful. It’s fair to say that these injuries were not just devastating to the client; they rendered him unable to walk for months. After spending ample amounts of both money and time trying to recuperate from this fall, the client came to Christmas Law Firm simply looking for a way to get his life back. Fortunately, in June of this year, Gary Christmas obtained a $1,002,500 settlement to help pay for the damages and injuries the client suffered.
