A NEW ERA IN TRUSS MANUFACTURING
Double Our Capacity at New Plant
Lumber distribution is, and always will be, a core business of Franklin Building Supply. Our ability to sell lumber is often predicated on our truss capacity to sell as a package. About 25 years ago, Franklin got into the truss manufacturing business to complement our lumber distribution
and broke ground in Caldwell last July on a new, more state- of-the-art truss plant.
Almost 11 months later, we are excited in anticipation of being close to the finish line! By the end of this month, we
expect to be producing trusses on a limited basis with a full transition out of the existing plant by the end of June. Once we are fully operational, we expect to more than double our current capacity and improve our productivity in a
safe environment. The plant is located directly behind the Caldwell yard on a new road called Arthur Street. The building itself is almost 40,000 square feet with the ability to expand an additional
business. It has been in the same location at the Boise campus with the same equipment ever since. It’s served us well. But as the business grew, and the equipment got old and outdated, it was time to plan for the future. Once the new Jerome Truss plant was completed at the end of 2019, we turned our attention to what was needed in the Treasure Valley to keep up with the growing market. Months of planning ensued from building design and budget, equipment needs and acquisition, and a construction timeline. We once again partnered with Peterson Brothers Construction
15,000 square feet in the future. A 3,000-square-foot office will house our production and design teams. Enhancements to the equipment include two full production lines with an automated setup feature that dramatically reduces our setup time between trusses. A new state-of- the-art saw increases our saw throughput with only one operator. This project would not have been possible without the success we have achieved through everyone’s effort — and it’s been a team effort to build. Thank you to all who have made this a reality as we enter a new era in truss manufacturing.

WOW Sue Mowers To Darin Neal & Nate Lish, Pocatello Two of our amazing yard crew came to the assistance of an elderly customer on oxygen. It was a cold day in Pocatello and our customer’s car would not start. Darin Neal and Rowdy (Nate Lish) jumped her car with the forklift while she sat in the warm building. She was still apologizing for being a bother as Nate helped her into the car. Thanks Nate and Darin for showing how we take care of each other at Franklin. As a bonus, she thought you two were handsome men! I am one lucky person to get to work with the guys in our Pocatello yard crew. GUIDE From Eric Heiden to Casey Hazelbush, Burley BisTrack had a hiccup at just the wrong time and messed up an exchange order I had just created for the customer. I was drawing a blank on how to fix it, but Casey came up with a way to fix it, and it worked! EASY From Jordan Paeth to Brittney Bourget and Nathan Hebert, Design Innovations Wanted to give a shoutout to these two. We received a phone call from a contractor that a countertop did not go on as scheduled THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT A New Truss Plant Is a Big Step Building a new truss manufacturing facility is a significant achievement, and I am proud of the progress we have made over the past five years while I have been the general manager of this team. We have overcome numerous hurdles, and it is exciting to see the company invest in our growth. The new Caldwell Truss Plant is not only state of the art, but it will also be able to service the growth of Southwestern Idaho for decades to come. Over the last few years, we have faced many challenges, including economic downturns, unprecedented demand, and supply chain disruptions. However, we have persevered and remained committed to our goal of providing a high-quality product to Franklin’s customers at a great value. With the new facility, we are confident that we can achieve this goal, meet the needs of our existing customers, and add new customers. HIGH FIVES!
and was putting him behind. It turned out the material was back- ordered and overlooked at follow-up. Nate quickly went into action and discovered the material was still out of stock. He sourced a similar material that was in town, picked it up, and scheduled the installation. Scheduling rejected the timeline, but Nate understood
the urgency. Brittney rearranged her schedule for the afternoon to make sure it happened. Nate and Brittney worked together to meet the customer’s needs. Way to take a bad situation and turn it around so quickly!
STRIVE From Reuben Gutierrez to Ashly Stroh, Boise
I would like to send a High Five out to our receiver, Ashly Stroh. She has one of the most thankless jobs in the building. She
handles all the receiving for the yard and store and also handles all stock transfers in the Treasure Valley. She is always willing to help and resolve issues with a positive attitude. She is an example of the employee we should all strive to be.
SAFE From Kris Hudson to Tony Williams, Pocatello
Tony is always looking out for the safety and well-being of others. He always comes up with a solution that makes all parties involved happy while still keeping everyone safe.
will enable us to produce high-quality trusses quickly and efficiently, reducing lead times and improving customer satisfaction. One of the most exciting aspects of the new facility is its capacity. We will be able to double the output of our current facility within a few months of being in the new plant, allowing us to take on more projects and expand our reach. This increased capacity will also allow us to be more competitive in the market and reduce our lead times, which will help us grow market share. I am extremely proud of the accomplishments of the Boise Truss employee owners over the past five years. We have grown both wallet and market share and improved efficiency and quality at the same time as we reduced waste and increased safety. I cannot think of a more deserving group of individuals to receive an upgrade and be given the opportunity to take truss manufacturing in southwestern Idaho to the next level.
The Caldwell Truss Plant is equipped with the latest technology, including automated truss tables, a new automated saw, and advanced quality control systems that are entirely digital. This technology

BE THE COWORKER YOU WANT TO WORK WITH
3. Nurturing a learning mindset is a key attribute of ownership. As a frontline employee, actively seek opportunities for personal and professional growth. Engage in training programs, get feedback from colleagues and supervisors, and embrace self-development. By constantly expanding your knowledge and skills, you contribute to a culture of continuous improvement, fostering innovation and efficiency throughout the organization. 4. Cultivating pride in your work environment is an integral part of ownership. Recognize that your workplace is more than just a physical space. Take pride in maintaining cleanliness, organizing workspaces efficiently, and promoting professionalism. By displaying ownership over your work environment, you create a positive atmosphere for both customers and colleagues. This not only enhances the overall employee experience but also elevates the company’s reputation and customer satisfaction. Our culture is our superpower, and it has the power to position us well ahead of our competitors. In McCall, we say the customer experience will never exceed the employees. In a nutshell, be the coworker you want to work with and the employee you’d want to help you, and help us all make this the career everyone wants to have!
In today’s ever-evolving work landscape, the concept of employee ownership has taken on a value of its own. It’s no longer just a tagline and retirement plan; frontline employees have the power to make their work culture and environment exceptional. But what does that actually mean? Much like the Dupont Bradley curve and the flow from reactive to interdependent, there are practical attitudes we can each adopt to help move us forward. 1. Taking the initiative is a crucial aspect of ownership. As frontline employees, you have a unique perspective on daily operations and customer interactions. By actively seeking opportunities to improve processes and suggesting innovative ideas, you demonstrate a genuine sense of ownership. When you go the extra mile in your work, rather than simply expecting management to drive progress, you become a catalyst for positive change within the organization. 2. Embracing accountability is another vital aspect of ownership. Recognize that your actions directly impact customer satisfaction, operational efficiency, and the company’s reputation. By consistently delivering high-quality results, meeting deadlines, and proactively addressing challenges, you exhibit a strong sense of responsibility. When you take ownership of your work and its outcomes, you contribute to a culture of trust, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
