There’s no reason to read testimonials from clients that Arielle and Travis Weedman have achieved absolute nir- vana in creating environments. In the past 21 years, they remain resolute in their focus to reflect the lifestyles of the people and brands they work with. “With” is the operative word in their mission statement, as no client travels alone on a design journey with their firm that encompasses a totally immersive approach get- ting its shape from the feelings, values, and beliefs of the client. An initial visit to their studio reveals the overarch- ing context to that philosophy and the comfort it lends to the artform that is practiced within. Rather than entering a stark environment that contains sterile clean lines and absence of warmth, the studio ex- udes personality and a sense of belonging. Juxtaposed with a modern gallery space that appears to erupt from the core of the historic Northwest Portland space, the offices float atop a disarming main floor that serves as a center of learning and sharing. Sitting with the duo provides an opportunity to unwind where conversation shifts from their selections in art to previous projects of note and what transpired during their plethora of client interactions. The positive energy and smiles as they recount the past demonstrates that their jobs are by no means work, but a lifestyle. The lifestyle transcends itself to their own peaceful prop- erty in Northeast Portland that has gone through its own metamorphosis under their guidance. “Nothing you see here previously existed except some original elements of the structure,” Travis explained. “Every part of this home has a unique touch that we’ve personally implemented.” A curated style pours into their landscaping which trans- formed spaces into lush gathering places making use of difficult areas including a well-loved soaking pool that straddles the property line. “We wanted our design to flow into the outside and that includes the textures we selected for each plant we’ve placed into the environ- ment.” Like their studio, the Weedmans choices can regularly convince guests into thinking the spaces - at business and home - have been curated with care for years. With equal skill, they balance the art of residential and commercial clients with the same approach from mood boards to the creative alignment of the brands they rep- resent. Technical excellence is always part of the service as they navigate all the nuances of architecture, engi- neering, and construction as well as procurement to en- sure efficient and reliable sourcing. An accountable and proactive creative engine is the net result. Their creative swath has unfurled itself to numerous oth- er markets throughout the U.S. and also internationally. Brought together though an enthusiasm for food, art, and furniture, they’ve managed to create a process that is firmly based in a partnership on all levels. Native Portlander Arielle met Wisconsin-born Travis at the Kimpton Group’s Hotel Vintage Plaza in 2000. Along with kids Harry and Hazel, they call Portland home with dogs Charlie Sparkles and Mr. Pickles not far behind. PROCESS TO PARTNERSHIP
