New & Noteworthy

ZERO Prostate Cancer Day & Early Detection Impact Award Winners! In celebration of ZERO Prostate Cancer Day on September 28th, we kicked off our triple match for all donations received until the end of September and announced our Early Detection Impact Awardees! This year’s awardees were Scott and Katy Freitag. Scott is a stage IV prostate cancer patient currently on his annual 11,000-mile bike ride across the United States with his wife Katy to raise money and bring awareness to prostate cancer. Scott and Katy stop to meet with organizations along the way to share what they’re doing and to encourage men to get their PSA levels tested. Scott and Katy are on a mission to save lives as true ZERO Champions! Congratulations to Scott and Katy!

New ZERO Health Equity Resources ZERO is dedicated to providing our patients, survivors, and caregivers with the most up-to-date resources. We are excited to announce that our Health Equity Team is working on a series of educational videos geared toward Black men. These short videos will cover many topics, including what is prostate cancer, informed decision-making, and more. We have released one video about PSA screening, which you can find here on our YouTube page.

PCRP Updates The Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRP) is the most impactful federal investment in prostate cancer research, yielding a number of new treatments and a diagnostic tool in the last decade. The PCRP is part of the Defense Appropriations bill which currently provides $110 million in funding. However, Congressmen Soto (R-FL) and Bishop (D-GA) introduced amendment 165 to increase the $110 million to $120 million for the 2024 fiscal year. Unfortunately, the House Rules Committee did not vote to pass the amendment. However, ZERO will continue to advocate for life-saving legislation at the state and federal levels. If you are interested in supporting our advocacy efforts, please email Jess at jessica@zerocancer.org.
