Trustees Meeting Agenda | October, 2024

The work that has been accomplished in these three years has provided the university an opportunity to begin to live into its aspirational vision. There are several areas of opportunity that need to be seized by all members of the university community to make all this work become part of our culture. • Building a culture of trust will be essential and will depend upon having genuine and authentic relationships across the university. It will be important for the president to continue to gather with executive leaders to visibly demonstrate his commitment to the vision, mission, values, and strategic plan and the direction of the university. • Diversifying the communication channels will be an essential part of building trust. There is a great deal of outstanding work happening through the president’s leadership, but that work is not always shared throughout the university, so some areas remain unclear on what is happening and there are misperceptions about things like the work that is being accomplished around diversity. • Continuing to lead with vulnerability in order to demonstrate that we all have learning and growing to do as we engage the adaptive challenges before us. The gap between our current state and our aspirational vision should foster a creative tension that urges us forward. The Board also continues to see the incredible promise and possibility of Central Washington University and have requested that the President focus on three goals for the next several years: • Shared Governance – continue to build an understanding of what shared governance is and how it operates. Shared governance groups need to understand where they have authority and where they are consulted and get to participate. Having this kind of clarity will help with building trust. • Financial Sustainability – great work has been accomplished on managing a challenging budget situation and on expanding new resource opportunities. To focus on the Biennium Budget and on fundraising will be important in the coming years. Finding new funding streams will also be important as we think in nontraditional ways about our business model. • Culture of Inclusion and Belonging – this has been a clear priority for the president and a great deal of work has been accomplished in this area, including beginning to diversify the leadership of the institution. The president needs to continue to lead this work and make it clear that this is a priority—and to share the results of this work more broadly. The Board appreciates President Wohlpart’s willingness to conduct a thorough 360-degree evaluation which included surveying key university and external constituents for their feedback on his leadership. As a result of the evaluation, the President has been provided a new five-year contract. We recommend the following motion: The Board of Trustees of Central Washington University hereby approves the evaluation of President Wohlpart (CWUP 1-10-050) as presented. Submitted:
