IMA Schelling: Solution provider for the final stages of panel production In the wood panel industry, IMA Schelling has made a name for themselves for their cutting, handling, storage and packaging solutions. By Yap Shi Quan

Much emphasis has arguably been placed on key components of a wood panel production line, such as the sanding and finishing equipment, the presses that form particleboards and fibreboards, the dryers that dry wood chips and fibres, and so forth. Without these equipment, a panel production line cannot function. But just as important to the line are the conveying and belt systems, the sizing, the transporting of panels from one process to the other, until it comes out of a line fully formed and ready to be stored. In this regard, IMA Schelling is a specialist with over 100 years of competency.

“Us catering to panel producers is not a new thing at all,” elaborated Edgar Rusev, managing director of IMA Schelling Asia-Pacific. “This dates back to the sixties, decades back. However, to come up with more specialised solutions, or to further develop our product portfolio, we defined our business unit more clearly around seven to eight years ago, clearly separated from other competencies we have.” In Europe, IMA Schelling’s handling and cutting solutions are both enjoyed by many panel producers, the likes of

which include Egger, Roseburg Forest Products, and a few of European’s biggest panel producers. “The more complex and challenging the task is, the more appreciated our technology and reliability are,” Rusev said. Case in point: Egger approached IMA Schelling with the task of making “profitable use of the available space in a central location [in Egger’s warehouse]”. To do so, “processing orders” needs to be faster and more flexible, “while simultaneously making
