The Frenzied Tango Cleveland Orchestra
Pioneering composer John Adams conducts a marquee lineup of Cleveland Orchestra premieres, including his Frenzy , an audacious work that reflects our dizzying modernity, and his own arrangements of Astor Piazzolla’s irresistible Argentine tango. Following a contemplative fugue by Ives, pianist Aaron Diehl takes center stage in a concerto composed for him, Timo Andres’s delightful American pastiche Made of Tunes . Chan Conducts Bartok Cleveland Orchestra
Patricia Kopatchinskaja makes her much-anticipated Cleveland Orchestra debut with Bartók’s fiery Violin Concerto No. 1, which remained unperformed for 50 years after its dedicatee rejected both the concerto and the composer’s affections. Wagner’s Gotterdammerung Cleveland Orchestra
The word “epic” could have been invented to describe the music of Götterdämmerung, the heaven-and-earth-shaking culmination of Wagner’s four-part Ring cycle, complete with vengeance, magic fire, and the redemptive power of love beyond death.
