Honoring Our Heroes: A Veterans Day Message WHY VETERANS DESERVE MORE THAN JUST THANKS
Veterans Day has always meant something more to me than just a date on the calendar. That’s because my grandfather, Albert Iamelli, was a proud Navy veteran who served in World War II. He was a true gentleman: humble, loyal, and though my mother tells me he was tough as nails, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren could do no wrong in his eyes, and we never heard a cross word from him. He didn’t talk much about his time in the service, only once when I asked to interview him for a high school report, and I really listened to what he had to say. Because behind those stories was a deep sense of honor, sacrifice, and pride. He was one of the reasons I became an estate planning attorney. Watching him and my grandmother face the challenges of aging, with limited guidance and support, lit a fire in me. I saw firsthand how complicated it could be to navigate the world of elder law, long-term care, and veterans’ benefits. I knew there had to be a better way, and I wanted to be part of it. So, when I started Monteforte Law, I made it a priority to get certified by the Department of Veterans Affairs. It wasn’t just another credential to hang on the wall; it was about making sure I could help veterans like my grandfather. The truth is that when estate planning isn’t done the right way, veterans can lose the benefits they fought so hard to earn. That’s not okay with me.
We also regularly donate to the “iPods for Wounded Veterans” organization and have given them several laptops that they gift to soldiers. Because we know the cost of freedom isn’t a slogan. It’s real. And it’s personal.
So today, and every day, we say thank you.
To our clients who served, thank you.
But today’s message isn’t about legal strategy. It’s about recognition.
To the family members of veterans, thank you.
Veterans Day is a time to honor the brave men and women who have worn the uniform. It’s about the ones who served in combat, and the ones who served behind the scenes. It’s about those who never made it home, and those who came home forever changed. And it’s about the families who supported them every step of the way. At our firm, we don’t just “support the troops” in a generic sense. We try to live it. Whether that means helping veterans secure Aid & Attendance benefits so they can afford long-term care, or ensuring their estate plan protects their hard-earned rights, we do it with gratitude and respect. My grandfather’s military flag is proudly displayed in my office.
To my grandfather, who set the example for me, thank you.
We are free because of your sacrifice. We are able to build our lives, our businesses, and our futures because you were willing to risk yours. That’s something we can never repay, but we can remember. We can honor. And we can do better by you.
Wishing all veterans a peaceful and proud Veterans Day.

Necessary Endings, Healthy Beginnings Recent Team Changes, Same Promise: Better, Faster, Clearer Planning
I’ve been revisiting the book “Necessary Endings” by Dr. Henry Cloud. The idea is simple: Sometimes you prune healthy plants so they can bloom. That’s how I think about running a law firm. Not drama, just deliberate improvement. Recently, we made some staffing changes. We thanked two attorneys for their contributions and wished them good luck as we move into our next chapter. No backstory needed. What matters is what you can expect from us going forward. What changed (for the better): • Sharper focus. I’m personally overseeing legal strategy and training while we tighten the roster with proven A-players. • Faster follow-through. We’ve streamlined drafting, review, and signing checkpoints so you’re not chasing updates. • Clearer communication. Proactive check-ins, plain English, and timelines you can actually understand. What didn’t change (and won’t): • Our standards. Real planning, not templates. Advice that fits your family, not someone else’s. • Our tools. The advanced trusts and proprietary strategies we’re known for are alive and well. • Expert-level planning, led by me, overseen by me, and designed by me. What an upgrade looks like in practice: We set your signing date early, provide plain-English draft summaries, and shorten the path from review to signing so your plan is finished sooner. We’ve doubled quality control on deeds and
beneficiary designations and are more ruthless about eliminating wasted steps that slow you down. Less friction for you; cleaner results for your family. Endings aren’t fun. But they are often the most respectful way to protect what matters: your plan, your time, and your peace of mind. I’d rather make a careful change today than let small cracks become big problems tomorrow. That’s stewardship. You’ll notice quicker responses, tighter drafts, clearer timelines, and pricing up front. No surprises, just informed decisions. If you’ve been on the fence about getting started, or it’s time to refresh an older plan, consider this your nudge. Our team is focused, our processes are tighter than ever, and we’re ready to help you make smart moves you’ll feel good about five and 10 years from now.
Next steps: • New to us: Grab a seat at our next seminar or schedule a Strategic Planning Session. See how true, hands-on planning feels. • Have questions right now? Call us. A real human will pick up and point you in the right direction.
Necessary endings create room for healthy beginnings. Thanks for trusting us with yours.
BUILDING A NEW BOND WITH YOUR ADULT CHILDREN When Parenting Grows Up
Shift from manager to mentor. Parents are used to taking control, but once your child is grown, your role isn’t to direct; it’s to support. Think of yourself as a trusted advisor rather than a supervisor. Offer wisdom when asked, not directives, and when they choose differently than you would, support them even if it means learning by trial and error. Let go of old baggage. Every parent-child relationship has its history: the highs, mistakes, and things you wish you’d done differently. Don’t let unresolved pain linger. Instead, create space for honest, judgment-free conversations. Apologize when needed and forgive generously. Remember, you’re not trying to rewrite the past. You’re building a better future.
When your kids grow up, the relationship inevitably shifts. Gone are the days of setting curfews and packing lunches. Instead, you face a new and sometimes awkward role: figuring out how to stay close without overstepping boundaries. But here’s the good news: A stronger, more fulfilling relationship is possible. It just takes some recalibration. Start seeing them as adults. Your child may still be “your baby” in your heart, but they also pay bills, make career decisions, and navigate adult relationships. Respecting their autonomy means holding back on unsolicited advice and treating their choices with the same respect you’d offer a close friend.
Embrace the new dynamic. Your adult child might become a great friend, and that transition can be incredibly rewarding. Share parts of your life you might’ve once kept private: your struggles, passions, and dreams. When both sides show vulnerability, the relationship deepens. Stay curious. Don’t assume you know everything about them. Ask open-ended questions. What lights them up? What stresses them out? Show genuine interest in their world, and they’ll be more likely to keep inviting you into it.

The Friendly Voice on the Line, Making Your First Step Easy MEET NICOLE OTT
We talk a lot about “real planning, not templates.” But there’s a step before planning ever starts: the first call. That moment sets the tone for everything that follows, which is why I’m excited to introduce Nicole Ott , our new Lead Intake Coordinator (around the office, we call her “Nicole O.” so no one confuses her with our VP, Nicole Rego). Nicole is usually the first person you’ll speak with when you reach out. Her job is simple to describe and hard to do well: listen carefully, understand what you need, and get you to the right next step, whether that’s a Strategic Planning Session or a seat at an upcoming seminar. She’s the bridge between “thinking about it” and “getting it done,” and she handles that handoff with calm, care, and speed. What I like most about Nicole is that her professionalism is powered by heart. She’s been through the real-life experiences that bring many families to
us, navigating decisions when emotions are high. That experience fuels her mission here: help you get answers fast, avoid unnecessary fights, and put your wishes in order before a crisis forces your hand. It’s empathy first, then action. A few fun snapshots so you can picture the human on the other end of the line: Nicole’s a summer person (think pool days and a firepit at night). She’s big on music, from country concerts to the competitive glory of music bingo. Before joining us, she worked in education, including with students with special needs, and also ran the front-of-house in the beauty world as an esthetician and salon manager. Translation: She knows people, she knows service, and she keeps things moving. What this means for you: When you call, a real human answers . You get clear guidance on what to bring, what happens next, and how we’ll keep your matter moving. No runaround. No mystery.
Just a friendly pro who respects your time and gets you where you need to go. If you’ve been meaning to start, or it’s time to refresh an old plan, Nicole is ready to help you take the first step the right way. Next step: Call us and ask for Nicole O. to schedule your Strategic Planning Session or grab a seat at our next seminar. She’ll get you squared away in minutes.

Are Budgeting Apps Making Us Smarter or More Stressed?
Do Budgeting Apps Actually Help
OR JUST FEEL PRODUCTIVE?
Behavioral Change Made Easier Many apps teach a mindset and help users understand and align spending with values. They work on embracing true expenses, letting money age, and teaching individuals how to roll with the punches of stocks and other investments. Motivation Through Goal-Setting Whether you’re saving $1,000 or planning a vacation, watching progress visually in an app keeps you motivated. Like fitness trackers, financial apps reward steady efforts with reports and nudges that reinforce positive habits. But are you just getting busier? Time Sink or Digital Chore? Digging into your budget with an app can feel like opening a can of worms. There’s always another category to adjust, a mislabeled transaction to fix, or settings to fine-tune. While many users appreciate the flexibility apps offer compared to traditional
Keeping track of your money used to mean balancing checkbooks or jotting down expenses in a notebook. Today, it’s as simple as downloading an app. Budgeting tools like YNAB and Monarch promise clarity, control, and smarter spending from your phone. But as more people use these digital money managers, a fair question arises: Are these apps helping us take control of our finances, or are they just another thing to manage in an already busy life? The case for ‘You’re better with apps.’ Instant Awareness and Insight Connect your accounts, and your entire spending picture comes into focus. You’ll see real-time updates as purchases roll in, budget categories fill up, and savings goals progress. That kind of visibility makes it easier to spot patterns, adjust habits, and make smarter financial choices day to day, often leading to better savings or faster debt payoff.
spreadsheets, the constant need to review and manage the details can still drain your focus and energy. Subscription Costs and Privacy Fears Premium features aren’t free. Apps like YNAB, Simplifi, or PocketGuard cost upward of $3–$15 a month. Some free apps monetize via data sharing or ads. Even with encryption, there’s always a risk when sensitive financial data is stored digitally. Restrictive Mindsets and Stress Budgeting tools that rigidly enforce every dollar allocated can sometimes foster anxiety around spending. Users may feel guilty even for small wants, or experience friction in social settings when budget limits feel oppressive rather than helpful. The choice is yours! Many users find the sweet spot: Use an app for automatic tracking, but limit deep interaction to weekly reviews. This approach combines insight without turning your budget into a marathon slog.
