JUNE 2023

MAKING OUR COMMUNITY SAFER, ONE CASE AT A TIME

we see ourselves as guardians of our community but over more than just traffic. As a law firm, we believe it is our moral obligation to use the legal system for good to

help prevent future injuries, accidents, and injustices. When we say that we will fight for your best interest, we don’t just say it because it sounds good or for marketing purposes. As our Marketing Director, I can attest to this. Fighting for your best interest is our promise and guarantee to you. It is something we are very proud of and put our name and entire brand behind with honor and integrity.

WE ARE HERE TO “GUARD” OUR CLIENTS, WHETHER THAT IS FROM A RECKLESS DRIVER, NEGLIGENT DOCTOR, CORRUPT HEALTH CARE ADMINISTRATION, OR FRAUDULENT EMPLOYER.

I’m very excited about all the new safety initiatives we are working on to better serve you and the greater community. More to come in future newsletters! Our hope is that people will not be intimidated by our team of lawyers but rather see them as both partners and friends who will go to bat for you or your family during challenging times. These days, we all need to look out for one another. Know that our entire team at Tittle & Perlmuter is working diligently day in and day out to do just that. So, the next time you drive over Hope Memorial Bridge or visit our office, we hope you remember that your friends at Tittle & Perlmuter have your back and that we are here for you. We have a passion for safety that fuels us each day to show up and fight for our community — you. Friends, know you are guarded!

When it came to picking the name for our newsletter, the creative process was quite the challenge! We wanted it to be fitting for our firm, but we also wanted it to mean something. When you read our title, “The Guardian,” you might not think twice, but there’s more to the story, and I’m excited to share its significance with you. Surprise! It has nothing to do with baseball! At Tittle & Perlmuter, our mission is to make our community a safer place, one case at a time. We are here to “guard” our clients, whether that is from a reckless driver, negligent doctor, corrupt health care administration, or fraudulent employer. Protecting our clients is a responsibility we are committed to and take very seriously. And believe it or not, it all started with a bridge. If you’re native to Cleveland, you probably know of the traffic guardian statues on Hope Memorial Bridge. The bridge’s engineer constructed eight guardian figures to watch over the traffic of Cleveland. We resonated with these guardians so much that we have a mural behind the reception desk in our office. Some of you may have seen it before! Just like these figures,

KEEP YOURSELF SAFE! Celebrate National Safety Month With These Tips

HEAT-RELATED ILLNESS As we approach some of the hottest months of the year, it's important to remember the summer heat can be dangerous. So, when temperatures are high, be sure to:

June is National Safety Month — started by the National Safety Council to remind everyone about the importance of personal safety at work and home. And while no one ever expects an accident or injury, the National Safety Council aims to bring attention to preventable injuries. To support that goal, each week in June focuses on a different type of injury. For 2023, the topics are emergency preparedness; slips, trips, and falls; heat-related illness; and hazard recognition. We also want to bring awareness to National Safety Month. That's why we will highlight some of the crucial things you should know about each injury category for the month so you can stay safe. EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS The best thing you can do to help yourself and your family stay safe from emergencies is to create an emergency action plan. This plan

should include labeling safe places in your home for natural disasters, evacuation routes from the house, locations of first-aid kits, and more. Habitat for Humanity has an excellent Family Emergency Preparedness guide found at Habitat.org/our- work/disaster-response/disaster-preparedness- homeowners/family-preparedness-plan , which we encourage you to use. SLIPS, TRIPS, AND FALLS Wherever you go, you should be able to walk without fear of falling. However, this may not always be the case, as many places we visit may put us at risk with cluttered walkways, spilled liquids, and low lighting. So, how can you avoid injury when your environment is out of your control?

• •

Drink plenty of water.

Schedule outdoor activities when it's cooler — before noon or in the evening. Wear breathable clothing and sunscreen. Pace yourself and take breaks often in the shade.

• •

HAZARD RECOGNITION Anything that can move, fall, break, leak, or possibly start a fire in your home is considered a hazard. To keep you and your family safe, take a look around your space for:

• •

Frayed extension cords or exposed wires Chemicals stored near heat sources or on high shelves Cloth or paper stored near a heat source. Smoke alarms on each level of your home Heavy objects stored in high places, especially something easily bumped or tipped

• • •

• •

Wear properly fitting shoes.

Look at the ground for any debris while walking. Use the flashlight on your phone if you cannot see.

What do you hope to accomplish when you start a new exercise routine? Many of us aim to become stronger, lose weight, or improve our overall health. What if there was a way to accomplish these goals in six weeks of training? That’s what CrossFit does when properly performed. For those unfamiliar, CrossFit is a form of high-intensity interval training that combines elements of weightlifting, gymnastics, and metabolic conditioning. It was designed in 2000 to help athletes improve their cardiovascular and respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, coordination, and agility. Since then, many gyms have become fully dedicated to CrossFit programs and classes. Walking into a CrossFit gym or class for the first time can be intimidating. For years, the thought was that CrossFit was intended for bodybuilders and athletes only, but anyone can benefit from these activities if they make a dedicated effort. When you initially begin CrossFit, the best results occur through two or three exercises per week. If you’re already in great shape, you can benefit by increasing your frequency, as long as you maintain a rest day between each workout day. If you fail to leave yourself enough recovery time, you’ll overwork your body and become susceptible to injuries. GET IN BETTER SHAPE WITHIN 6 WEEKS The Power of CrossFit

It doesn’t take long to see results once

you start a CrossFit program. Many CrossFit classes include some form of weightlifting and resistance training, which will help you build muscle and grow stronger. Since these exercises are often high-intensity, you’ll burn even more calories than you would during a standard workout. Many of the activities will increase your heart rate, which improves cardiovascular health.

CrossFit has risks, but you can have a safe and enjoyable workout by taking proper precautions. Don’t push

yourself too hard; stop the activity if you notice pain. CrossFit training can be incredibly rewarding and beneficial when done right!

And today, they carry on her mission by improving the lives of those less fortunate and raising the community up as a whole. The May Dugan Center is an independent, not-for-profit organization serving Cleveland's west side neighborhoods and the Greater Cleveland area. We love what the May Dugan Center does because at Tittle & Perlmuter, we're all about helping those in our community however we can. This is why we joined up with the May Dugan Center to volunteer with their Produce & Food Distribution Program, where our staff helped provide fresh produce and other food items during their bimonthly drive-thru distributions! Currently, the May Dugan Center desperately needs volunteers for this program. So if you, a loved one, or some friends are interested, we highly encourage you to reach out and get involved too! You can visit MayDuganCenter.org/Volunteer to fill out their volunteer form or call (216) 631-5800 if you have any questions. We hope to see you there!

Chia Seed Jam We suggest making the chia seed jam in advance and storing it in the refrigerator so you can quickly assemble these yogurt bowls all week. Using a potato masher, mash down the cherries. Place a small pot on high heat and add the cherries, chia seeds, honey, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil, then turn down the heat and let simmer for 10 minutes, stirring constantly. Allow jam to cool before using or refrigerate. Greek Yogurt Bowls In a small serving bowl, mix the Greek yogurt with vanilla extract. Top the Greek yogurt with 2 tbsp cherry chia seed jam, hemp seeds, granola, and a few additional Chelan fresh sweet cherries, if desired.

RESCUE DOG’S LEGACY LIVES ON How the World Fell for Frida

Dressed in protective goggles, blue booties, and a matching vest, this incredible rescue dog became

While the nation was devastated by the disaster, this smiley rescue pup brought worldwide attention to the tragedy. Frida’s dedication (and impeccable style) quickly made her an internet celebrity, and soon, murals of the lifesaving canine graced the walls of Mexico City. Even Captain America, aka Chris Evans, gave Frida a shoutout on Twitter, adding, “What did we do to deserve dogs?” The hero dog then traveled the world, helping countries suffering from the aftermath of disastrous earthquakes. Frida saved lives in Haiti and Ecuador before retiring from her position in 2019 at 10 years old to live the rest of her days in comfort and love. Sadly, the Mexican Navy announced Frida’s passing in November 2022 due to old age. She was 13 years old. In her honor, a magnificent bronze statue of Frida, clad in goggles and boots, stands in front of the Mexican Navy office in Mexico City. On the day of her death, the Mexican Navy changed their Twitter banner to an illustration of Frida and spread the hashtag "#HastaSiempreFrida." Frida will always be remembered for her lifesaving work and the hope she embodied for the entire world.

a symbol of hope in Mexico. Frida, a cheerful yellow Labrador retriever, was a devoted member of the Mexican Navy known for her search and rescue skills. Trained to find people trapped under rubble after earthquakes, Frida always worked hard to save lives.

Frida became a national hero when a devastating earthquake hit Mexico City in 2017. The 7.1 magnitude earthquake took more than 300 lives and injured many more. While sifting through dangerous debris and aftershocks, Frida saved 12 people after finding them alive while uncovering more than 40 bodies during her lifesaving career.
