Welcome to Scholar Zone Extended Learning!
This guide is designed to introduce you to the materials and practices you’ll be using with scholars in Scholar Zone Extended Learning for Math. You’ll find a Planning and Pacing Guide that shows what is included in each of the math sessions. This guide will help you prepare ahead for your time with scholars. You’ll also find an Answer Key to help you check scholars’ work. What’s Inside the Student Books Student Content The student handbook has selections from Guided Reading Short Reads and Scholastic’s ScienceSpin magazine that are used to build knowledge and vocabulary. A math focus is correlated for each selection. The handbook includes math practice pages that will help children develop and practice their grade-level math skills. And there are Just for Fun pages, as well. Teacher Notes Each session’s Teacher notes provide suggestions for introducing instruction, assigning work, and reviewing work. Discussion questions help engage children with texts. Teacher notes will help guide you, and then you may provide further support depending on the needs of your scholars. Suggested Materials • Provide red, green, blue, black, orange, yellow, brown, and purple crayons for children to use for specific activities. • If available, provide base ten blocks (hundreds, tens, and ones) for working with place value. • If available, provide counters or connecting cubes to use for addition or subtraction.
