Biola Broadcaster - 1965-10

Q . Sunnyside, Washington — “In regard to Numbers 16:30 did the Lord cause an earthquake which made the earth open its mouth, or did the earth open its mouth through His power?” A. This was the time of rebellion by Korah and his wicked followers. They were saying that Moses and Aaron had been taking too much authority and responsibility to themselves. Be cause of their evil speaking and jealous hearts the Lord did cause an earth quake to come and swallow up those wicked men. It was, of course, ac complished by the Lord’s directive power. God is still using these warn ings in nature as a means of direct ing man to see the power of His Word. He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. “Will you please explain Exodus 84:9 and verses following which seem to contradict such statements as ‘No man hath seen God at any time,” If you are not receiving copies of the BROADCASTER monthly, you may have them come to your home or office automatically by being a member of the Biola Fellowship. A. The last quotation is from John 1:18. This is the Scriptural standard concerning seeing God. In the flesh we are not able to see deity. The Exodus portion does not suggest that these people visibly saw the Lord, but that His spiritual essence was observed. Some theologians believe this was a pre-incarnate appearance of Christ. These manifestations of deity in the Old Testament calling for a human body are this in actuality. (This does not mean the same body He would later enter the world through the vir gin birth.) Q . San Pablo, Calif. — “I’m concerned about John 5:39 in which we read, ‘Ye think ye have eternal life.’ Can you help me?” A. The context shows that the Jews were persecuting Jesus. They tried to kill Him (verse 18). Christ was talk ing to these same peoples who had rested upon the insecurity of their own vain righteousness. They tried to merit salvation by rigorously adher- copy of this publication, please pass it along to a friend so that he may also enroll in the Plan and receive these helpful monthly features from the broadcasts.
