An Interview With..

Proaudio Sound Press: Can you share a bit about yourself and your journey as DJ Max D Steezy? When and where did you start your career professionally? Max D Steezy: I’m Letsatsi “Max” Ditlhale, professionally known as Max D Steezy. A DJ/Producer born in Debrak village but currently residing in Mogwase Township. I started DJing in 2013 when I was in Grade 12 using Virtual DJ but professionally started to DJ in 2015 when I joined a DJ Society in UJ (Mixx Masterz University of Johannesburg). From there I kept on pushing, playing in different spots to gain fans and experience. Proaudio Sound Press: What government initiatives or support have you received since the start of your career, and how have they impacted your journey as a DJ? Max D Steezy: Since 2018, I received assistance from Business and Arts South Africa (BASA) with a catalyst grant, providing mentorship to shape artists into making businesses from their arts. During Covid-19, I utilized opportunities from the Department of Sport, Arts & Culture to submit proposals for projects aligned with Covid-19 regulations.

Projects like WeLive Sessions, virtual Heritage events, and music workshops received funding from the National Arts Council (NAC). These initiatives have made a significant impact on my career, allowing me to showcase my talent while generating income. Proaudio Sound Press: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact on the music industry. How did it affect your musical career, and what strategies did you employ to navigate the challenges it presented? Max D Steezy: With mentorship and skills acquired from BASA and the DJ and Music Production Institute, I focused on monetizing my career through virtual projects like WeLive Sessions and private events. Venturing into film production using my musical skills further diversified my income streams. These strategies helped me adapt to the challenges presented by the pandemic and continue pursuing my passion. Proaudio Sound Press: Are there specific artists you look up to, and how have they influenced your musical career?
