Putting the Shelterbox to the test

Photos Francis Racine

If you have ever tried sleeping through a cold winter night without heat, imagine sleeping in a tent for a whole night. That’s exactly what four members of the Cornwall Rotary Club did on January 17. Peter Labelle, Ted Castle, Larry Gaunce and SebastianWarner all used the tent provided in the shelterbox. The green box is distributed around the world, where disasters have occurred. It roughly contains everything that is needed in order to survive, such as a tent which can hold eight individuals, a waterproof ground mat, a thermal fleece blanket, cooking equipment, water containers and filtration devices, a tool kit, chil- dren’s activity packs, mosquito nets and even a small stove.
