SPACE WALES Wales is the world’s first Sustainable Space Nation; a nation that uses the unique solutions from space to address the global and national challenges on Earth. We do so in a manner that will deliver a sustainable environment and employment for future generations. To drive forward our ambitions in this sector Aerospace Wales has now established Space Wales www.spacewales.co.uk. We are planning a National Space Observatory that draws together the public, private and academic sector experts to define the challenges and the potential solutions to the management of our part of the planet. As a result, we anticipate being able to better plan the service delivery and environmental mitigations required to protect our future. Our resident optics, sensor, computing and AI skills will all play a significant part in creating solutions, and virtualisation and simulations will help develop wider understanding of the risks we face and the impact of possible solutions. Our Start-ups are thriving: We have a stellar range of launch options with: B2Space’s balloon launched “Rockoon” solution provides low-cost access to Low Earth Observation for small and micro-satellites and launched successfully in the summer of 2022. SmallSpark’s responsive launch systems are simplifying access to Space whilst enabling higher performance systems to be integrated into smaller satellites Space Forge has a programme to develop in-space manufacturing solutions with fully returnable and reusable satellites all being developed in Wales.
