Women in Weights and Measures Article The mentorship doesn’t stop with formal organizations. One of the strongest themes across these stories is paying it forward. Training others. Building the next generation. Creating systems and people that outlast you. Georgia described retirement as the moment she truly saw her impact reflected back, through the many metrologists shaped by her work. Kate spoke about ushering in the next generation because she wants others to love this profession as much as she does. So what do we tell young women considering this field? Learn the fundamentals so well that no one can shake you. Competence is your anchor in rooms where you may be underestimated. Ask questions: education is your superpower. Don’t worry about fitting into the “good ol’ boys club.” Start your own club. Don’t fear the forklift; the forklift is your friend. And remember: your job isn’t to prove you belong. You already do.
