IFC W elcome to the 64th annual Tucumcari Bull Test Sale. Big news at the test station! We have expanded! Cooperators have invested in adding eight additional GrowSafe® digital feed intake systems to the station. This essentially doubled how many cattle are being evaluated for feed efficiency. All told, we tested 275 animals for the 2025-2026 season. This year we are also welcoming 19 cooperators from four states (New Mexico, Texas, Colorado, and Oklahoma). With this increase in capacity, we will now be testing 65 heifers for feed efficiency as well. Understanding the efficiency of females, along with selecting proven efficient bulls, will greatly accelerate genetic improvement in a herd, extend your forage, and, with proper management, increase stocking rates, which in turn boosts profits. You may expect a few changes with our sale order this year. We will begin the sale by highlighting the top-ranking bulls of each breed, followed by Angus, SimAngus, Hereford, LimFlex, Braunvieh, and commercial bulls. We will then be selling performance-tested and ranch-raised females at the end of the sale. As the industry continues to focus on sustainability, the genetics being tested at Tucumcari are going to help producers head in the right direction. Whether these bulls or heifers pass on their proven traits to their daughters to better utilize forage or improve the cost of gain of their calves in the feedlot, producers will benefit either way. We will once again be hosting a live auction beginning at 1:00pm MT at the TFET sale barn, located at the Rex Kirksey Ag Science Center in Tucumcari, NM. If you can’t make the sale in person, DVAuction will be broadcasting the sale live online as well. Our hope is it will be a convenient option for our customers. Bull preview is set to begin at 10am MT. Customers are welcome to look at the bulls, visit with producers, and join us for lunch. You can look at the bulls and all their data from the comfort of your home by visiting our website: tucbulltest.nmsu.edu. Take the time you need to make these important purchasing decisions. Can’t make the sale or get online during the sale? Please give me a call at your convenience and I will help you place your bids on the bulls you like. As an added convenience, we have extended our delivery service. Our participating producers continue to bring top genetics that can improve the performance and efficiency of your cow herd. We hope you will join us in person or online to take advantage of another great set of performance-proven yearling bulls! Marcy

CONTEMPORARY GROUPING With the addition of the Growsafe® feeders and new pen configuration at the TFET test station, new ratio and indexing formulas have been put in place to best assess a bull’s performance. For the 2024/2025 test, growth performance ratios are based WITHIN breed across the entire barn. Feed efficiency, however, is ratio’d within GRP; A or B. The justification for this is animal size at testing and weather. Test Index = 40(ADG BREED Ratio) + .40(WDA BREED Ratio)+.20(Feed Efficiency PEN Ratio) Bulls with less than 8 in their breed do not have ratio values. Only bulls testing in the top 85%tile will be sold. Percentile Rankings All breed associations compile annual data to create breed average EPD values for each trait they measure. The average value effectively represents a

percentile of 50%. A bull’s EPD values are ranked within the range of EPD values of a particular trait and are expressed as a percentile. For example, if the breed average in the Angus breed for Weaning Weight (WW) is +67, and the individual bull’s EPD for WW is +85, his ranking is in the top 10% of the breed. NOTE: EPD values are independent within breed and should not be cross referenced with other breeds. Table 1 demonstrates the current average EPD values for each breed represented in the sale, along with EPD values that rank in the top 10% within the breed. In the catalog you will find the percentile ranking next to each presented EPD for each bull.

Bringing them home

The goal here at the Tucumcari Bull Test is to provide breeders an opportunity to gain invaluable information, gauging the progress of their genetics. One tool that has proven beneficial is the data collected here at the bull test. In its 65 years of operation, we have improved gain, growth and efficiency by 25%. Progress in nutritional management has also improved. In the beginning, bulls were fed diets equivalent to high grain feedlot diets. Over time, more forage has been introduced into the diets to meet gain objectives while allowing for a smoother transition to a full forage diet. We continue to make this transition to forage while the bulls are still in our care. During the last three weeks, bulls have been on a full hay diet. This allows for the rumen microbes to adjust and be ready for grazing. When bringing them home, the process begins before the bull ever steps off the trailer. Preparation of facilities and management plans is essential. Pens, traps, and pastures should be secure, free of hazards, and designed to minimize stress. Water sources should be clean and easily accessible, and feed bunks or hay rings placed to encourage calm, natural movement. Stress of transport, commingling with new cattle, and exposure to unfamiliar surroundings can impact health and body condition. Observing animals closely during the

first 24 hours provides valuable insight—who is alert, who is timid, who may be stiff or reluctant to move. These early observations often reveal issues that are easier to address when caught promptly. Allowing them a few days to settle before introduction to new pastures is recommended. Once turned out, they will likely spend several days learning the new fence boundaries and chasing cows in heat; which can contribute to weight loss in those early weeks. Caring for new young bulls is both a responsibility and an opportunity, as it is a critical period for protecting your investment. These animals represent years of genetic progress, financial commitment, and expectation, and how they are managed in the first weeks and months after purchase or development can shape their long-term soundness, fertility, and longevity. Thoughtful, consistent care during this transition period sets the foundation for a bull that will remain productive, healthy, and safe to handle throughout his working life. At the Tucumcari Bull Test, we strive to set your investment up for long-term success. If you have any concerns regarding the health of bulls purchased through the Tucumcari Bull Sale, we encourage you to contact the test director so she can be made aware of the situation and provide assistance as needed.

Top Ranking Report for Day 86 of the 120 day test!

This report provides the raw performance bulls that are performing in the top 10% of their breed contemporary group at the 86-day mark. In the report, bulls are ranked based on average daily gain (ADG) and weight per day of age (WDA) within breed. Not all bulls have intake data at this time, so efficiency was not included. The supplemental

sheet will provide all the data (including carcass, frame, and scrotal) from the sale bulls for the 120 day test. The supplemental will be available at the sale and on the tucbulltest.nmsu.edu website, and through the DVAuction website.

Tucumcari Bull Test Mission The Tucumcari Feed Efficiency Test (TFET) exists to provide independent, data- driven bull evaluation that helps commercial cattlemen make more informed, profitable genetic decisions. By combining performance testing, efficiency data, and multi-breed genetic tools, TFET is committed to advancing seedstock integrity, commercial profitability, and long-term sustainability of the beef industry in the Southwest and beyond. PERFORMANCE DATA – See the Supplemental Sheet Provided online and at the sale BW = Birth Weight of the animal WW = Weaning Weight of the animal ADG = Average Daily Gain; End Wt – Beginning Wt / Days on feed WDA = Weight per Day of Age; Body weight/days of age FE: = Feed Efficiency; lbs of dry matter intake/ADG RFI; Residual Feed Intake; A measure of metabolic efficiency, where a negative number indicates an individual required less feed to achieve the same gain as his contemporaries. Understanding EPDs and $Indexes EPDs (Expected Progeny Differences) predict how a bull’s calves will perform compared to others of the same breed. CED – Calving ease in heifers (higher = fewer assists)

RE – Ribeye size and muscling Additional traits:

SC (Angus) – Fertility indicator Doc (Angus) – Temperament Angl (Angus) – Foot structure and longevity Stay (Simmental) – Probability daughters remain productive to age 6 $Indexes (Economic Selection Tools) $Indexes combine multiple traits into a single value tied to expected profitability. Higher values indicate greater economic potential within that production scenario. Angus $M – Maternal profitability; best for building efficient replacement females $B – Post-weaning and carcass value; ideal for terminal marketing Simmental API – Balanced index for systems retaining daughters TI – Terminal index when all calves are fed and sold Hereford BMI$ – Maternal index for building baldy replacement females CHB$ – Terminal index focused on carcass value Buyer Tips • Use CED + BW for heifer bulls • Use WW + YW + $B or TI to add growth and payweight • Use Milk, Stay, $M, API, or BMI$ when building maternal cow herds • Use Marb, RE, CHB$, $B, or TI for grid and carcass value • Compare EPDs and indexes within breed

BW – Birth weight (lower = easier calving) WW – Weaning weight (growth to weaning) YW – Yearling weight (post-weaning growth) Milk – Daughters’ milking ability Marb – Marbling and quality grade potential

B4L Angus

Cody Drager of B4L Angus run 80-100 Angus cows west of Muleshoe, Texas. B4L Angus originated in 2009 with the purchase of 10 embryo calves from a calf raiser after the owner dispersed. They expanded in 2013 with the purchase of the fall-calving herd from Spruce Mountain. They have been a closed herd until 2017, with the exception of bull sales. They, along with their two sons, Mason and Jackson, primarily utilize AI and ET in their breeding program. This allows them to use the best genetics available to build their herd as they see fit, which is as follows: Here at B4L Angus we focus on performance related to the economical phases of cattle production. Primarily, cattle are worth the most at weaning and harvest. Therefore, we focus heavily on Weaning Weights and Carcass Weights in our herd. More pounds at these times equal more money in our pockets. Also, the largest input cost, in any program, is cow feed cost. Larger cows eat more feed. And so, we focus highly on $EN and mature cow size as

well. We also want our cattle to be nice to look at, so we select for phenotype when choosing whether a cow will be a donor, AI’ed or a recipient. This allows us to produce stout, rugged bulls that have dimension and shape. B4L Angus strives to produce cattle that grow rapidly to an endpoint and shut down. We feel we are doing just that. Cody and his family have developed a cow herd built for this part of the country.

Alex Netherton Las Animas, CO 719-980-5075 alex_colo_75@yahoo.com

We founded our small program in 2004 with our initial purchase of 40 cows from the Larson program at Sharon Springs, Kansas. All black calves born on our place are the product of either AI or ET as we don’t run any black clean-up bulls. All calves have their parentage verified by blood test and have their EPDs enhanced by the Angus GS Genomic test. We strive to produce bulls and females that are trouble free, easy keeping and docile. We have been taking bulls to the Tucumcari Bull test for over ten years and have won the test once and have had the most efficient bull on test a couple times. We annually send bulls to the test not only to be able to market a few bulls outside our home area and expand our bull market but also, and more importantly, to identify which cows of ours produce the best and most efficient and best gaining calves. We appreciate you considering our program and guarantee our bulls through the first breeding season. We will be in the stockyards at the test site the afternoon before the sale and the morning of the sale, if you have any questions or need more information about our bulls or our program. Prior to that, you can call on us at 719- 980-5075

• Big time growth projections as his Angus GS test shows his weaning weight projection to be in the top 4% of the breed, while his yearling weight projection shows him to be in the top 10% of the breed. His feet and legs are also to be admired; the claw and angle scores from the genomic sequence test show him to be in the top 15% and 30%, respectively.

• We consider him to be the best Craftsman son we have raised. With his Weaning and Yearling EPDs both in the top 10% of the breed and gaining almost 4.5 lbs a day through the first 60 days of the test, he’s also been one of the most efficient bulls on test with a ratio of 132.

value of the injured bull. Salvage value will be valued at $2,200 and Lust Angus Angus will provide credit on any amount over that. The buyer will receive whatever the actual salvage value is. Notification must be given to us prior to selling the injured bull. We do not guarantee against death for any reason. Insurance is available to purchase in case of mortality. We offer discount of 3% on 5-9 head 5% on 10 or more.

He is a standout that’s loaded with muscle, is super easy going and has tremendous feed conversion and average daily gain numbers.

Valigura Simmental

We here at Valigura Simmental are eager to kick off the 2026 spring bull sale season with you! Located in Estancia, NM, we are first generation farmers/ranchers and feel blessed to have the ability and opportunity to raise our family within the agricultural industry. We continue to move towards becoming your biggest supplier of SimAngus genetics in New Mexico because we know how profitable this hybrid is for the commercial cattlemen! Our 3 kids (Autumn 11, Aubrey 8 and Theodore 5) have not only become our biggest helpers out here on the farm, but also our motivation to do what we do. Valigura Simmental once again has 50 bulls to offer this year and we brought 15 of them to TFET. Our reference sires include CLRS Kangaroo, JRA Kingston, HA Locomotion, CLRS Lambeau, J-C Legacy and Emblem. We are excited to offer you a very diverse genetic lineup- there is something for every herd! Kangaroo has once again produced awesome calves for us and is a must- use sire for years to come. Kingston has our most feed efficient Bull at the halfway point. Legacy is a purebred Angus that we purchased from J-C Angus that has worked well with our Simmental cows. 2025 proved to be the best cattle market in history but with the cow herd being at such low levels, it is more important now than ever to invest in profitable genetics. We have been bringing some of the most elite Simmental genetics into our herd from Montana, Minnesota,

Michigan, and Colorado with the desire to provide quality seedstock for our buyers. We are striving to build relationships for the future and welcome any questions that you may have about our program. Please feel free to reach out anytime as Jordan always loves to talk cattle and Amy is happy to host. *We stand behind our cattle. If you have any problems, we will do everything reasonable to make it right! Free delivery up to 350 miles if total purchases exceed $6,000. Housing and care available through May 1st if needed. “For every animal of the forest is mine, the cattle on a thousand hills.” Psalm 50:10
