Mom is doing well, though we all miss you deeply. She still loves “making a circle,” around the ranch just like the two of you did together so many times, almost always checking the mares along the way. I often wonder if that was something your parents enjoyed too. I never had the chance to know your dad, but I’m grateful for the sto - ries you shared about him. It’s hard to imagine that you were only 29 years old when he went to Heaven and you had to take over the family ranch. I’m so thankful I was blessed with almost twice that many years working side by side with you. Thank you for being an incredible teacher and an even better dad. I grew up on this ranch opening gates for you, never dreaming that one day I’d treasure doing it again. These past few years, making those circles with you was a true blessing. I drove and opened most of the gates because your body just wasn’t quite strong enough anymore, but I admired how you insisted on opening at least one. It was like you wanted to prove, to yourself and to me, that you still could. I cherish those moments. Thank you for opening gates, more than just on the ranch, but gates & doors you helped open in life for our entire family. Thank you for teaching us to be

y’all built, our Headquarters, the Bull Development Center, and Tiger Bass Lake. In addition, you can see some of the things your dad built, like the Rock Barn and the house where you raised us, and later where Kelli and I raised our family. That house is Mom’s other favorite stop, because now Lanham and Josey live there with their twin boys that were born just two days before you went to Heaven. Holding them brings the sweetest smile to her face and the comfort of knowing that y’all’s 26 great-grandchildren are carrying on the family tradition of “doing your best, with what you have, while you can.” And just recently, Bob Tallman announced to the world at the Fort Worth Stock Show Ranch Rodeo that Jaylee Brown won both go-rounds of barrel racing while riding double, as she and Myles are expecting your 27th great-grandchild. Your funeral was a tremendous bless - ing with an outpouring of love from people who came from near and far to celebrate the life you lived and the example you set. Many were especially moved by the story of the cross you built. Betsy & Marianne were adamant that I share that during one of your darkest battles with depression, you spent hours crafting that cross from tough old mesquite, even letting Rob A. and me help a little. It gave new mean - ing to bowing humbly at the foot of the cross and to denying ourselves, taking up our cross, and following Jesus. I’ll never forget the message you shared when the cross was finally hung at the front of the church, how mes - quite is strong but imperfect, just like us. You pointed out the chipped corner and the scars left by insects that bored deep into the wood, explaining that following Christ doesn’t mean perfec - tion. Our imperfections leave scars and consequences, yet Christ’s sacrifice atones for our sins when we repent and seek forgiveness. In 2 Corinthians 12:7-10, Paul speaks of his “thorn in the flesh” and reminds us that “God’s grace is sufficient, for His power is made perfect in our weak - ness.” He never said what his “thorn” was, but he inferred that we all have them. I believe depression was your

depression will seek help, because you proved it is a treatable disease. People also loved hearing the story behind your colored glasses. Mom smiled when I shared how you were the first college graduate and how she helped you every step of the way. People were amazed that you strug - gled to read most of your life and that your classmates called you dumb. However, your second-grade teacher encouraged you and inspired you to use other senses like listening and watching. She knew you were smart. Years later, you learned that dyslexia was the cause of your challenge with reading. After hearing about Irlen lenses, you discovered how colored filters helped you see the words clear - ly. The book, Reading by the Colors: Overcoming Dyslexia by Helen Irlen, helped describe this phenomenon. That book also motivated me to start color coding EPDs. I recently started sharing our EPD targets and color codes with the public. People love it and often call or write to say thank you for helping them better under - stand and use EPDs to produce better cattle. This first sale without you will sure be strange, but I know you will have the best seat of all to see it from Heaven. Dad, you were a leader in so many ar - eas: AI, ET, EPDs, cattle genetics, hors - es, range and brush management, wildlife stewardship, estate planning, and more. Thank you for teaching us to work, earn, save, and invest wisely. Thank you for teaching us that we work for our customers. I will do my best to follow in your footsteps. The words you ended every prayer with still echo in our hearts: “…guide us, direct us, help us to be of Thy service and do Thy will, in Jesus name, amen.” We miss you and love you, Dad.

stewards of the land, livestock and our community. Thanks for helping make this ranch (God’s, not ours) more pro - ductive while teaching each generation about birth, growth, maturity, and even death in such a variety of meaningful ways. Mom has two favorite stops on her “circles” these days. The first is the family cemetery you and she selected together. She enjoys the quiet there, and it’s amazing how often the mares join her. They help dry the tears and bring a smile to her face. From that spot, you can see so much of what

BVD, BRSV, Vibrio, Lepto and Pinkeye. 3) All bulls in this catalog are CERTIFIED AS VIRGINS unless otherwised marked. 4) INTERSTATE HEALTH PAPERS will be provided for animals going to states that only require the specifications listed above. Any additional testing (i.e. Brucellosis or TB) will begin after the sale and those interstate health papers will be ready after all testing is completed. If you plan to haul your own cattle after the sale across the state line, please check with your state veterinarian to make sure your state will receive cattle from us without additional testing. FERTILITY GUARANTEE: All bulls and females are guaranteed breeders as described in the “Terms & Conditions” at the back of this catalog. All of these bulls passed a breeding soundness exam (BSE) by one of our Veterinarians. None of us can afford a bull not doing his job. Bulls can become temporarily infertile due to fever, excessive heat, injury, diet (whole cottonseed or poor diet), etc. We have experienced this with bulls we purchased with breeding soundness exams and took for granted that they were still ready to breed cows. We recommend that you fertility test all your bulls 30 days prior to each breeding season every year. If you find a bull infertile prior to or during his first 60

days with cows, please contact us immediately. After a second failed test, at least two weeks after the first, we will replace the bull or give you credit, according to the “Terms & Conditions” in the back of this catalog. Getting your cows pregnant is a high priority for us. DELIVERY of BULLS and FEMALES: Please see the detailed information on our Delivery Service, pages 14-15. INSURANCE: Mortality Insurance will be available for purchase on sale day from Ag Defense Risk Management / Shari Holloway (pg 127). FUTURE CARE: We appreciate your investment in R.A. Brown Ranch genetics and want to make some recommendations to help you protect your investment. These bulls are ready to go straight in with your cows; however, the stress of the sale, hauling, and relocating these animals can weaken their immune system; therefore, we recommend that you check them daily for a couple of weeks. If you don’t put your bull in with cows right away, we recommend that you put your bull with another animal so that he is not by himself. Cattle are herd instinct animals and feel more comfortable with a friend. If you plan to mix your new purchase with other bulls, we recommend that you do not do it in a small pen, but rather the larger the pasture the better so that they have room to get away from each other. If you have to mix bulls, it is better to mix several

at one time that have not been together, than to just put one or two into a large group. We recommend vaccinating for Vibrio/Lepto and fertility testing your bulls 30 days prior to the breeding season each year. 18 month old bulls can be used very effectively when turned out with one cow per month of age (18 months - breed 18 females). Remember they are still growing and losing their baby teeth so they may need some extra care after their first breeding season. BUYING OPTIONS: Obviously we prefer for you to be with us on sale day but if you are unable to make it you have three options: 1. Log on to DV Auction & bid on the internet (see info at top of next page). 2. Personalized Bull Shopper. We will be glad to find you the bulls you need, within your budget. To utilize this option, like many of our long- time customers, please call Donnell Brown as soon as possible so that we can discuss how we can help you. 3. Customer Service Representatives. These men will be here and have studied the bulls. They can also put their eyes on specific cattle for you. MORE INFORMATION: We want you to have all of the info you need to make the best decisions. To view more information, you can visit our website at www.RABrownRanch. com to sort the animals and/or view their data in spreadsheet form. Also, we have included registration numbers on the registered animals so that you can look them up on the internet. If you want more information about these bulls and/

or females than what is in this catalog or on the web, please call and ask prior to Sale Day. In an effort to simplify the process, we have included the information in this catalog that we believe to be the most useful tools in describing genetic merit of each animal for economically relevant traits. UNDERSTANDING OUR STAR RATING SYSTEM

Our exclusive Star Rating System was developed to help summarize large amounts of data and simplify the bull- selection process—so you can more confidently choose the cattle that best fit your needs. The system combines all available performance information with a healthy dose of cowboy common sense to evaluate each bull in four key areas: •Heifer Calving Ease – risk management at calving •Feeder Calf Value – growth and together These ratings are applied consistently throughout the catalog, allowing you to compare bulls across Red Angus, Black Red Angus, and SimAngus . While EPDs and indexes remain the most precise tools for selection within a breed, you cannot use them to compare across all the different breeds we have. carcass value combined •Cow Herd – all things maternal •Complete – all traits considered

Our Cow Herd Stars are designed to help you select bulls that will produce superior replacement females. These ratings emphasize: •High fertility COW HERD STARS: BUILDING BETTER FEMALES

You may notice that our Calving Ease ratings are more conservative than what some breeders or breed associations recommend for heifer use. This is intentional. We believe it is better to be safe than sorry. Even the most proven calving-ease sires in the industry will occasionally sire a larger calf, and factors such as backwards calves or malpresentations can still require assistance. Our goal is not to promise zero intervention, but to reduce calving risk as much as possible and help you manage your labor and time during calving season to get the most live calves possible out of your heifers. Calving ease is not a concern for cows so a bull with 0 Calving Ease Stars can be used on cows without any calving difficulty. We occasionally have a bull that is only recommended for Brahman cross cows and those will be designated as BrX NEW THIS YEAR: FEEDER CALF VALUE STARS This year, we are introducing a new category: Feeder Calf Value . This rating combines growth and carcass traits into a single score because while calves are sold by the pound, their price is determined by how profitably buyers expect them to grow and grade . Through the Rancher’s Sustainable Angus Alliance , our goal is to buy your weaned calves and return added value to you when they perform well in the yard on the grid. A CONSERVATIVE APPROACH TO CALVING EASE

•Longevity and Stayability •Moderate, functional milk

production

•Feed efficiency with

adequate appetite The more Cow Herd Stars a bull earns, the more reproductively efficient, fertile, and productive his daughters should be over a long, useful lifetime.

HOW TO USE THE SYSTEM

The Star Rating System is meant to be a starting point . It helps you quickly narrow the field to bulls that fit your goals. From there, we encourage you to study: •Individual EPDs system , found at the beginning of each breed section, which highlights our ideal target ranges • The sortable spreadsheets on our website, where you can see how stars align with each EPD Used together, these tools allow you to move from simple comparison to precise selection , helping you invest • Percentile rankings •Our EPD color-coding in genetics that will work for your environment, your market, and your long-term goals.

HOW THE STARS WORK

Each bull is rated from 0 to 5 stars in each category. Simply put, more stars mean the better they are in that category. •One Star indicates a bull ranks in the top half of the industry for Feeder Calf Value, Cow Herd, and Complete. Below average bulls don’t earn any stars. •Five Stars are reserved for the elite—the true standouts and the very best in each category. Our Five-Star designation is unchanged from past years and continues to represent the cream of the crop . While other programs may use stars as a marketing tool to help sell what they have, our system was built for one purpose: to help you buy what you need.

WHAT AND WHY WE RETAIN A SEMEN INTEREST IN EVERY BULL. RETAINED INTEREST

double the final bid price on the bull at the time of the sale. In the event that the buyer elects to purchase exclusive semen marketing rights, then R.A. Brown Ranch retains the right of first refusal on the purchase of natural service rights of the bull if the original buyer decides to sell the natural service rights and or possession of the bull anytime during his lifetime. REALISTICALLY SPEAKING - It is unlikely that large amounts of semen will be sold from very many bulls. However, the reason we are keeping an interest in every bull, is that we want to keep it simple and we have great bulls scattered throughout the sale. The bulls that do develop a market for large amounts of semen can be very financially rewarding; therefore, as a breeder of some of the best seedstock in the industry, we want to share with you in these bulls. Even bulls sold to commercial herds may become popular at a later time, especially if carcass data is collected on their calves. We want to be a great partner with you. SEMEN RIGHTS - Buyers receive semen rights proportional to the interest purchased. Therefore if you purchase a 1/2 revenue-sharing semen interest then you are entitled to 1/2 of the semen collections at cost provided that you indicate that you want semen prior to collection. If you choose to collect semen from one of these bulls as an “insurance policy” for your own use, that semen is 100% yours, but before any semen is collected on any bull in this sale, R. A Brown Ranch must be notified. FURTHER TERMS IN THIS REGARD - See Sale Terms and Conditions at the

OWNERSHIP - We are selling full possession, full salvage value and 1/2 revenue-sharing semen interest in every bull in this sale. This means the bull is totally in your control in how you want to handle him plus you get 100% of the salvage value of the bull. We are retaining 1/2 revenue-sharing semen interest in every bull in this sale. This simply gives us the right to half of the semen sales revenue from the bull if at some time in the future, semen sales become a reality. If you choose to sell the bull to anyone else, R.A. Brown Ranch (and Cooperators) retain our semen interest in the bull. If you wish to buy a bull in this sale and would prefer that we did not retain a semen interest, then please talk with us about it prior to the sale and we will consider selling the bull(s) to you without us retaining an interest and make that agreement in writing prior to the sale. The buyer may elect to purchase as much additional semen interest as you desire by paying the additional pro- rated amount. For example you can purchase 2/3 or 3/4 semen interest by paying an additional 33% or 50% of the final bid price respectively. If a buyer is not interested in marketing the semen from a bull then R.A. Brown Ranch reserves the right to collect a semen bank on the bull at our cost and the buyer’s convenience. That semen would be 100% owned by the R.A. Brown Ranch for our use or marketing. EXCLUSIVE SEMEN MARKETING RIGHTS - The buyer may elect to purchase exclusive semen marketing rights on any bull in this sale by paying

DELIVERY We can deliver the bulls at least 80% of the distance to your ranch. We may not drop at your ranch except on purchases totaling over $40,000. Preferred delivery drop points are not guaranteed and are subject to change depending on load routes. We try hard to get the cattle to everyone as safely, timely and cost effectively as possible. FREE DELIVERY We are offering free delivery to our “preferred delivery points” within the continental US for each buyer that purchases at least $18,000 in bulls or $30,000 for any combination of bulls and registered females. For purchases totaling less than these BULLS AND REGISTERED FEMALES ONLY amounts, we will provide delivery service to a “preferred delivery points” at the costs outlined on the prior page. Please inform us when you check out if you are hauling your own or that you would like us to coordinate the delivery of your cattle. If you want us to deliver the cattle, we need you to fill out a Delivery Information Sheet in the sale day supplement and give it to the clerk

when you pay out. Please note the cost of delivery associated with each delivery point. These charges will be reflected on your invoice on a per head basis. LOAD-OUT SERVICE (for all registered cattle) Many people prefer to haul their own cattle, and we are glad to help make this process as quick and easy as possible. If you choose to haul your own cattle, we can load them any time during the day on Wednesday through Saturday. We can load your cattle during the sale but you must first pay out and then bring the extra copy of your bill of sale (that you will receive at check out). Cattle will only be loaded when you present the extra copy of the paid Bill Of Sale. All animals that are to be hauled by the customer will be cared for at no cost through noon Saturday (3 days after the sale). Starting at noon Saturday there will be a charge of $6/head/day for all remaining animals that were to be picked up by the buyer. There will be no charge for feed and care of animals that are designated for us to deliver when you check out unless the delivery is delayed for any reason by the buyer. We can have Interstate Health Certificates for all animals that are going to states that accept cattle without additional testing. However, if your state requires additional testing like TB or Brucellosis, then that will be done the week after the sale and we can provide Interstate Health Certificates as soon as vet has all of the requirements met including permits from the buyer’s state.

TAKING DELIVERY ON COMMERCIAL FEMALES

All commercial females sell FOB from the ranch of origin. The buyer must coordinate directly with the seller to arrange delivery. DELIVERY IS NOT AVAILABLE ON HORSES. PREFERRED DELIVERY POINTS The destinations on the chart have been selected as “Preferred Delivery Points.” Please select the two delivery points that are most convenient for you. Drop points may be adjusted after the sale time depending on the location and purchases of each buyer. Please keep in mind that this is a guide for “Preferred Delivery Points,” not guaranteed delivery points. We will be glad to calculate the cost to additional delivery points after the sale. Please give us your home, office and mobile phone numbers so that we can contact you (and anyone else that may be involved in receiving your cattle) in regard to the delivery of your cattle. RISK and INSURANCE As outlined in the Terms and Conditions in the back of this catalog, all cattle become the risk of the purchaser as soon as they are sold. To protect your interests, insurance will be offered & can be purchased at settlement time. The cost of this insurance is minimal and we encourage all buyers to consider buying it to cover the potential mortality of your investments.

“ We know them. We trust them. They are our exclusive animal health provider.

I have known Todd Spitzer since we were both in the 6th grade. He has been our Animal Health provider since 1988. Similarly, Tucker & Lanham grew up with Gus West who has worked for Spitzer since he was in high school and is now the one that delivers our products to us on time, at at the right price and with a smile just like Todd and the rest of their team.” Donnell Brown R.A.
