Sustainability Practices
Killeavy Castle Estate estimates it was carbon positive in scopes 1 and 2 and 3 in calendar year 2023 when you consider all CO2 emissions. This important milestone has been achieved several years ahead of target (Est. 2027) and has been made possible by the hard work and diligence of our staff and because Killeavy Castle Estate has the beauty and benefit of large areas of plantation forests and ancient and developing native woodlands.
Key practices:
• Farm to Fork Ethos: Our Estate Farm provides fresh local produce for our guests and any suppliers that are used are based within a 20-mile radius of the Estate. • Waste: All food waste is used on the Estate farm and therefore no food waste goes to landfill. All plastics, cardboards and materials are reused or recycled. • Solar panels: In June 2024 we have installed solar panels on the hotel roof to provide for 100% electricity needs. • Landscape Restoration Plan: The NI Forest Service has removed 10 ha of Sitka Spruce plantation timber and Killeavy Castle Estate is preparing for the planting of around 35,000 native broadleaf trees later in the year. • A strict single-use plastic minimisation policy across the estate. What this means for our Guests: At Killeavy Castle Estate we pride ourselves on providing a truly sustainable, guilt-free, leisure, corporate and entertainment offering with four-star luxury service, accommodation, food and activities located in the heart of the Mourne, Gullion and Strangford Geopark.
