Healing at Don Diego VFW After 20 years in the service, I retired in 2010.

In 2021, I was elected as the first female Commander in the 66-year history of the Don Diego VFW Post 7420 in Logan Heights.

It was really healing.

It was, actually, an amazing place to try to step back into the world. I was around veterans, but I was still immersed in the community—from a safe place, from inside the VFW.

I finished my term as the Don Diego Post VFW 7420 Commander in June 2025.

My time there helped me grow. We implemented a lot of the programs I felt we needed. It’s important for me to do this work just because it’s healing. It’s healing to help others.
