Thinking Skills to Deepen Learning In this session,attendees will participate in a live activity that models how to explicitly develop the key cognitive processes that underpin problem solving. There will be interactive discussion whilst exploring how to build on cognition to improve, metacognition and self regulated learning. Practical Takeaway: Participants will then be invited to create a mini-lesson that incorporates these thinking skills.
Alisdair Wade is the CEO of Thinking Matters, an organisation that evolved from the Cognitive Education Development Unit at the University of Exeter. The group works with schools and education organisations across the globe, supporting them in the explicit development of ‘meta’ (metacognitive, self-regulating, independent) learners. Through teacher training and resources, Thinking Matters nurtures a pedagogical approach that weaves together existing practice and dovetails with the requirements of exam focussed education systems.
