NY Spring Welcome Packet 2023

Welcome Packet New York Spring 2023

Greetings!

Dear New or Returning Student,

On behalf of our faculty and staff, I want you to know that we are thrilled to have you as a student at Word of Life Bible Institute! We have been praying and planning for your arrival and cannot wait to see what the Lord has in store this year. Word of Life Bible Institute experience has commonly been called “the best year(s) of your life.”

As we anticipate an exciting year of learning and growing, I want to challenge you with the following verse:

“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20, ESV).

We believe that God has a very specific plan for your life. It is our prayer that the Lord uses your time here at Word of Life Bible Institute to equip you to carry out that plan. Could it be that this plan is beyond what you could ever ask for or think about? Just maybe, the Lord has plans for you that would blow your mind if you knew what was coming. I want to encourage you to enter this year with your heart and mind open to what the Lord wants to teach you. If you come with this attitude, I believe the Spirit of God will take the Word of God and begin to transform you from the inside out. For “far more abundant” things to happen in your life, it must be God doing them and not yourself. Our staff and faculty—Resident Assistants, Deans, Resident Professors, Visiting Professors, Kitchen Staff, Housekeeping, Maintenance Crew, and so many others—are ready to serve you. Please do not hesitate to let us know if you need anything.

Because of Grace,

Brian Baker Executive Dean of Bible Institutes

Final Official Transcript Notice New York Campus 2022-2023

Upon graduation, the Admissions Office will need your final official transcript from either your high school or homeschool organization. It is critical we receive your final official transcript in the mail before Registration which is Friday, September 9, 2022. Most students submit either a non-graduate transcript or a final unofficial transcript for acceptance. Non-graduate transcripts do not have a student’s complete 9th-12th final grades. A final unofficial transcript means it does consist of a student’s 9th-12th final grades, but it does not contain an ink signature or a raised school seal. If you submitted college transcripts for acceptance, we will need to receive your final official high school or homeschool transcripts to be enrolled as a student.

These are the specific items that need to be on the final official transcript for high school and homeschool organizations:

• There needs to be a final grade point average (GPA) or a grading scale if a GPA is not listed.

• Graduation Date.

• An ink signature or a raised seal from the school or organization.

• If you are homeschooled, we need to receive your Homeschool Verification Form with an ink signature.

Students who desire to transfer college credits to Word of Life Bible Institute should keep the following in mind:

• Only coursework completed at a C average or better will be considered for transfer.

• Students need to provide an original, official transcript from the institution where the coursework was completed and indicate a desire to transfer coursework before the day of registration. • Coursework earned at a non-accredited institution may be submitted for review with an original, official transcript and course descriptions from the institution where the coursework was completed.

Your financial aid is dependent upon your transcripts, so it is critical we receive them as soon as possible!

Please have your transcripts mailed to the following address:

Word of Life Bible Institute Admissions Department 4230 Glendale Rd. Pottersville, NY 12860

If you have any questions, please contact the Admissions Department at:

Dress Code 2022-2023

Dress and Appearance Our approach to standards for dress and appearance seeks to honor biblical principles of modesty as humility expressed in dress and to provide general guidelines appropriate for a Christ-centered educational institution. The Bible Institute strives to maintain a standard of dress and appearance that communicates modesty and discretion without magnifying or bringing undue attention to the individual. The biblical expectation of modesty is that the conduct of both men and women, which includes but is not limited to dress, serves to enhance rather than detract from the reputation of the Gospel (1 Tim. 2:3–10; 1 Pet. 3:3–4). Manifestation of modesty includes seeking to adorn the Gospel by placing emphasis on the condition of one’s heart expressed by living with humility in attitude, behavior, and dress (1 Sam. 16:7). Therefore, students are encouraged to portray servant attitudes toward Christ and other people in their dress and appearance. The specific guidelines included below are shaped by biblical principles and community preferences. Men’s Dress for Students Men should be modest in their dress and avoid excessively tight-fitting clothes or holes in inappropriate locations. Hairstyles and fashion should avoid extremes. Facial hair, if worn, should be intentionally grown, kept, and closely trimmed. Earrings and plugs may be worn in ears. No other facial jewelry is permitted. Clothing should not have slogans that are inconsistent with Bible Institute values. • Class Dress is required in Chapel and class. Class dress should be neat and consist of footwear, dress pants or jeans with no holes, and collared shirts/sweaters. Hats or hoods should not be worn in class or Chapel. • Casual Dress is acceptable any time class dress is not required. Casual dress consists of class dress and/or modest t-shirts and shorts (minimum 4-inch inseam), warm-ups, and footwear. Swimwear should be a modest swimsuit (shorts style swimsuit, not briefs). Women’s Dress for Students Women should be modest in their dress and avoid revealing, sheer, excessively tight-fitting or short clothing. Hairstyles and fashion should avoid extremes. Earrings and plugs may be worn in ears and small studs/rings may be worn in the nose. No other facial jewelry is permitted. Clothing should not have slogans that are inconsistent with Bible Institute values. • Class Dress is required in Chapel and class. Class dress should be neat and consist of footwear, modest length skirts or dresses (top of the knee), dress pants or jeans with no holes (including capri/cropped pants), and dress shirts/blouses/ sweaters. Hats or hoods should not be worn in class or Chapel. • Casual Dress is acceptable anytime class dress is not required. Casual dress consists of class dress and/or modest t-shirts and shorts (minimum 4-inch inseam), warm-ups, and footwear. Leggings/Tights should have a skirt, dress, or shirt over top that falls to the top of the knee. Swimwear should be a modest swimsuit (one-piece swimsuit or the appearance of a one-piece). Students are expected to abide by these guidelines both on and off campus when not on official school breaks. In addition, our campus culture supports the professional development of students and allows administration to communicate additional dress guidelines for special events and conferences. We also acknowledge additional guidelines for certain off-campus ministries and/ or mission trips.
