My Tigger pin gifted to me by incoming CHART President Kelly McCutcheon at a CHART Board Meeting
PresidenTalks Lessons from the Hundred Acre Wood: Shifting from Problems to Experiences I came across a clue recently while completing my “Daily Crossword Puzzle.” (any crossword puzzle fans out there??) Clue: Four letter word – Loveable bear who says “life is a journey to experience, not a problem to be solved.” If you guessed Pooh like me, you were right.
CHART President Dr. Felicia White, Ed.D, CHT
Now not to brag, but I fancy myself to be both somewhat of a crossword puzzle expert and part of the Hundred Acre Wood friend group…In fact, the first tattoo I ever got was of Tigger! However, I hadn’t recalled Pooh’s quote. (I guess I need to brush up on my Winnie the Pooh trivia.)
The quote made me think about how at times leaders (especially training leaders) may tend to focus on the “problems” and what fixes are needed. The question then becomes “what experiences are we missing out on while we’re busy fixing problems?” Instead of being focused on fixing problems, could we instead be focused on learning from the experience and facilitate opportunities for others to do the same? CHART resources such as Ask My Peers, Regional Training Forums, webinars, and of course conferences can provide valuable support as you work through these experiences. I’d be the first to admit that I focus on problems both personally and professionally in life, so I will keep Pooh’s advice in mind and remember the importance of the experience itself.
