ORANGE-BREASTED WAXBILL (Amandava subflava) A small, colourful finch, the Orange- breasted Waxbill is easily recognised by its prominent orange-red rump and supercilium (a stripe above the eyes). The male boasts a vibrant orange-red breast, while the female’s underparts are a more subdued orange. Found in grasslands and savannahs, particularly near water, the Orange-breasted Waxbill is often seen in small groups, foraging for seeds.

Shoot in Burst Mode: Birds are quick! Using burst mode helps capture the perfect moment during flight or other fast movements, ensuring you don’t miss a shot. 3. Use a Long Lens for Close-Ups: A lens with at least 300mm allows you to get close-up shots of birds without disturbing them. The longer the lens, the better for capturing wildlife from a distance. 4. Master the Background: A clean, blurred background (achieved with a wide aperture) ensures the bird stands out in your shot, making the composition more striking. Avoid busy or distracting elements in the background. 5. Know Your Subject: Research the birds you’ll be photographing.
