Year Eight Math This term the VIA class was learning about rates and ratios our teacher wanted to make it fun for all students to learn ratios so she included food in it. We used smarties to find the ratio of the different colours and convert it to fractions and percentages. We used Shapes to share it among friends and find the ratio and we used cordial too find proportion of cordial to water in litres and solved problems based on this.
And lastly our teacher baked us a chocolate calculator cake to help us find how much ingredients we need, per serve, and cost per serve. We had a booklet that stepped us through the process of planning our own party using the skills and concepts learnt prior to be able to manage a budget to celebrate an event of our choice. Natanya R
