Year Twelve Student Perspective

We could finally let out a sigh of relief as we heard “ pens down ” at the end of each exam, feeling that little bit lighter. While it may sound like a frightening experience to begin with, we all got the hang of it by the end. On our final exam, it was a bittersweet feeling hearing that phrase as we could finally relax. But it also meant our high school experience was ending. As soon as we left the exam room we all quickly debriefed on the experience, talking about how we think we went and what questions and parts we found difficult or surprising. In spite of how we end up doing, my peers and I are proud of our efforts and would like to thank all the staff who ensured the exam period ran smoothly for us. Now, we anxiously wait for our results which come out on Monday 12 December 2022. To future students sitting these exams, I promise they are not as scary as they seem. All you can ask of yourself during the exam period is to give it your absolute best and to stay positive. Give yourself a pep talk in the mirror beforehand. Trust me, it helps

As the inaugural VCE cohort of The Lakes, we were lucky enough to make history sitting the first ever Year 12 exams at The Lakes. Just like the teachers and the principal team, we were all a little nervous about how it would all play out as exams approached. We studied hard, going through countless past exam papers, searching for last minute tips and asking our teachers for help on things we were still unsure about. Often, exam time is a stressful period for us students. We wanted to do as well as we could but sometimes found the pressure of the whole experience daunting. Luckily, we have some amazing teachers and staff in our corner who supported us throughout this stressful period, reassuring us of our knowledge and giving us an extra little boost with a “ good luck ” before we walked into the exam room. This is where it finally felt real – when we took our seats for each exam and gave ourselves a last little pep talk in our heads before the clock started ticking. We battled with the clock and a sore hand from writing so much so fast, and at times we had to bring ourselves back from panic in the middle of an exam. On some occasions, a lot of us had two exams scheduled for the same day and that made us even more nervous. But with some careful time management skills and a few deep breaths, it was nothing we couldn ’ t handle.
