government. A state, feder- ally and locally funded proj- ect combines a Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority bus terminal on the ground floor, 45,000 s/f of LEED compliant office space for City Hall departments on the top two floors and an ad- jacent 370-space parking deck. CREW Lehigh Valley heard the story behind this innova- tive project during a lunchtime E
presentation and building tour on Wednesday, January 27. Mayor Sal Panto, making his fifth presentation before CREW LV, led the building tour. He announced that four CREW member firms were involved with the project: J.G. Petrucci Company, Pen- noni, Spillman Farmer Archi- tects and Boyle Construction. Mayor Panto discussed the city’s long quest for a new City Hall, outlining options that had been explored since 1996. This new building, on a
redevelopment site that for- merly contained a restaurant and a movie theater, integrates city functions in a way that is accessible to the public. Archi- tect Joe Biondo, a principal of Spillman Farmer Architects, Bethlehem, discussed historical influences and environmental features which he integrated into the building design. The main entrance features lo- cally quarried stone while the cherry wood walls featured in the council chambers and staircase were inspired the
Lenni Lanape long houses. Todd Fairfield, project man- ager from Boyle Construc- tion, Allentown, discussed construction challenges. The three story building which is 300’ long by 60’ wide had to be constructed from inside the building footprint as City Hall construction began after the completion of the parking deck. More than three dozen mem- bers and friends of CREW Lehigh Valley enjoyed the presentation. n
