Welcome to the Nebraska Bull Test Sale Dear Consignors, Buyers, and Guests,
For nearly 65 years, the Nebraska Bull Test has been a leader in performance evaluation, providing a rigorous and standardized approach to measuring the genetic potential of bulls from a variety of backgrounds. Our test begins by equalizing the playing field with a receiving weight, followed by a reweigh 10 days later to establish the official starting weight. We then collect 60-day, 90-day, and 120-day weights to accurately identify the top-performing bulls in the test. The bulls selected for this year’s sale represent the top 75 percent of those entered in early October. Following the 120-day weight and ultrasound data collection, average daily gain ratios and weight per day of age ratios were calculated to determine final index values. These ratios were combined and averaged to establish an overall performance index, which served as the foundation for bull selection. After the final ratios were completed, each bull underwent a comprehensive phenotypic evaluation. Any bull not meeting our standards for structural correctness, feet quality, soundness, and overall phenotype was culled. You can buy with confidence knowing the bulls offered today are ones we are proud to stand behind. Angus bulls are categorized into two divisions: Calving Ease Angus and Growth Angus. To qualify as a Calving Ease Angus bull, a bull must have a birth weight EPD of +1.5 or lower, an actual birth weight of 84 pounds or less, and be breeder-recommended for calving ease. Since stepping into the role of Sales Manager, I have developed a deep appreciation for our consignors and the commitment they bring to this program. I sincerely thank everyone who entered bulls in this year’s test, as well as those who assisted on weigh days, ultrasound day, video day, and semen check day. Your support and willingness to help are what make this program successful. I would also like to extend my gratitude to Shane Rohde and his team for maintaining exceptional facilities that provide bulls with ample space for exercise and a competitive environment that promotes performance. Shane is a pleasure to work with and always accommodating and willing to assist in any way necessary. Additionally, I am extremely grateful for the support and guidance of several key individuals who have helped make this sale possible. Janet Rippe of Rippe Solutions has been instrumental in managing records, finances, and advertising coordination. Cody Seigel has also been invaluable in helping navigate logistics, answering questions, and stepping in whenever an extra hand was needed. Once again, thank you for your continued commitment to this program. If you have any questions prior to the sale, please do not hesitate to reach out. We look forward to seeing you on March 25th!
Best regards, Braden Benes Nebraska Bull Test Manager
