Coming February 6th & 7th & 8th Club Championship

Your club championship is the first weekend of March. There will be four flights for men and women, so you will fit in your ability. Tee time start on hole one. One person team. Maximum of four people per tee time. Two days of Stroke play with the top 2/3 gross, playing on day three. $10 per person to play with food afterwards (Hamburger ’ s and drinks). Each player will play for a gross score. Net scores are for players that have at least 5 scores recorded this season at ORPS. Men ’ s gross and net and women ’ s gross and net will be paid, max of three places each depending on players on last day of each flight. HIO pot. This is for bragging rights for the year, in your flight. Fairwell Tournament March 22nd Ending our tournament season will be the Fairwell Tournament. This is a Shotgun start. Scramble format with up to 6 or 8 people per team. In a scramble, each player hits a shot off the tee on every hole, then the team chooses the best shot, and each player plays their next shot from that spot, within one club length of the original ball. Balls may not be left on the green with the intent that other players can or might hit off them, when chipping, pitching, or putting. Maximum 6 tee shots per player. Drinks on the course at 4 and 14. Pay normal with Chips. HIO pot. What a Fun February February had the Sweetheart / Me and My Friend Tournament, and another way to enjoy a round of golf with friends. We had a great turnout this year and it looked to me as if there was nothing but fun to be had on the course. Teams were all dressed for the occasion too. This tournament was all about fun or you would never drive off the tee box and make your partner have to play from where your ball landed (I have not heard of any teams that are not talking to each other). Money made from this tournament will go to help support all of the things that your golf committee has done and will keep doing for you. We thank you for your involvement.

Volunteering We must thank all the people that gave up their time volunteering for this and every golf event. Trust us when we say that you are the unsung heroes of the golfing community. Every event, be it our Tuesday and Thursday golf or the bigger tournaments, there is a lot of moving parts that some people must help with and to the Golf Committee that shows up every event and get it done, Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Saying “ See You Around ” To our golf committee members that are not returning to the committee next season, thank you for all the little things that no one sees you do, I do, and so did your team. We will miss your involvement and trust that you will do your tasks without having to make sure that it gets done. As your chair let me say, I have great respect for you and your family that were such a big part of the success of this season ’ s golf. We Are So Glad That You Are Here On behalf of your Golf Committee, we would like to thank everyone that comes out to play in our Tuesday scrambles and the Thursday Best Ball tournaments. We have enjoyed helping Ryln with these fun filled ways to play golf and meet people. If you have never tried or haven ’ t played for a while, let me cordially invite you to join us to a fun start to your morning. On the Tuesday scramble ’ s everyone tees off and then the best playable ball or best strategy needed ball is marked and everyone plays from there and if not holed then everyone plays from the closes ball to the cup until it is put into the hole, and you are on to the next hole. This format is fun for everyone, because everyone will contribute in one way or another to your team. Just bring your clubs, balls and a willingness to have fun. Teams change every week, so you never know what new friend is waiting to meet you. $5 to play On Thursdays you have a fun way of working on your game in a team format. You will play your own ball, but handicaps will be used to even up play. Most times only two scores from your team will be used per hole, so every hole is a new chance to help your team. At the end of the round, you may be surprised to see just how many times your score was used to help your team, but please remember that having fun remains the top priority. $5 to play

As many of you may have heard, I ’ ll be moving on from my role here at Outdoor Resort Palm Springs, with my final day being March 3. Before that time comes, I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to this incredible golf community that has meant so much to me. It has truly been a privilege to be part of the ORPS golf family. From tournaments and weekly play to casual rounds and conversations around the Starter Shack, the friendships and memories made here are something I will always carry with me. I ’ m incredibly grateful for the support, encouragement, and enthusiasm you ’ ve all shown, not just to me, but to the entire golf program. The spirit of camaraderie and love for the game at ORPS is unique, and I have no doubt it will continue to thrive. Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your rounds, your community, and ultimately your lives. I wish you all great golf, good health, and many more memorable days on the course. With sincere appreciation, Ryln Hadley

Many ORPS residents know Marge Nederveld as a vanguard of our resort. Gord and Marge of Michigan bought into the resort in 2003. Newly retired and knowing next to nothing about RVing, they nevertheless embraced the lifestyle. Marge, an elementary teacher, and Gord, an engineer, were instrumental in the design and funding for construction of a facility many of us find integral to our active lifestyle: the fitness center at La Palma. Marge was a tennis Captain for over 15 years, first in the 55+ and then the 65+ teams. When not on the courts, Marge enjoys walking in the resort, and sitting on her east-facing patio for a morning coffee. Prior to retirement, Marge had a career as an elementary school teacher. They built their dream home directly on Lake Michigan, with plenty of room for extended family to visit and play during the summer. Gord passed a few years ago, but the plaque that bears his name for, “ Tennis Sportsman of the Year ” now includes three from our community, with the fourth to be selected at the end of the season.

be severely limited. Fuel, propane, groceries and medical services outside the resort may not be available. Each month the Safety and Security committee will share with you important ways that each of us individually can and should do.

While life here at ORPS is almost like living in paradise, natural disasters do and will happen. The Safety and Security Committee Team Members along with ORPS management, staff and volunteers held the Annual Emergency Preparedness Drill on February 6. The purpose of the drill is to enhance and refresh the knowledge of team members in critical areas that would be required in an actual emergency. The Drill simulated a likely scenario and how each member works in a coordinated and systematic way to respond and act. Volunteers simulated “ victims ” with varying types of injuries. Additionally, the drill allowed all the team members to review Triage decision making, the use of emergency equipment and the finer points of incident command. As ORPS owners you are fortunate to have a team with over 100 years of collective experience in emergency preparedness who will respond quickly if or when there is a natural disaster. More than likely in a large-scale event, communities and individuals might need to be self-sufficient for days before local, state and federal agencies step in to help. You might think you and your RV are “ Self-Contained ” but the Coachella Valley could be without power, water, cable, and Cell Phone service. Access to local roads and transportation could

This month: how to Build an Emergency Kit:

1. Water - (Most Important) Plan on 1 gallon per person per day. Plan for at least 3 days. Include water for your pets. It would be wise not to store in the rig. Your dock box, away from a rig that could be damaged might be a better place to store this water supply. 2. Food 3-7 days of non-perishable food. Canned goods (vegetables, beans, tuna, soup) Protein bars, peanut butter, Dried fruit, nuts, shelf stable milk, manual can opener, paper plates & utensils. 3. Lighting and Power – flashlights, headlamps, extra batteries, battery banks, car charger. Avoid candles (fire risk) 4. First Aid & Health – first aid kit, 7-day supply of medications, copies of prescriptions, spare glasses/ contacts, hand sanitizer, wet wipes, pain relievers.

5. Important Documents – ID copies, Insurance policy information, a printed list of Emergency contacts.

Does the above seem like overkill? Having grown up on the West Coast and survived major earthquakes and fires. Then moving to the East Coast and Gulf Coast, we have also survived hurricanes, electrical brownouts, floods and one tornado. Yes, it is important to have an Emergency Kit, even if you live in an RV seasonally or permanently. Do you know where the nearest AED (Automated External Defibrillator) is? Check out this App for your phone. It will show you here in the resort or anywhere you are traveling, the location of nearby devices. https://www.pulsepoint.org/download

Next month: How to prepare a family emergency plan.

Preparedness isn ’ t about fear—it ’ s about readiness. By taking small steps now, we strengthen our community ’ s ability to respond, recover, and support one another when it matters most. For more information, visit the Outdoor Resorts HOA website: https://online.flippingbook.com/view/369655346/

Lessons from a Canadian

We have just recently participated in our annual ORPS Can-Am games. It ’ s a friendly competition between the two main people groups that holiday here each year, the Americans and the Canadians. It is meant to encourage participation, cooperation and the benefits of teamwork among friends. It got me thinking about a familiar group of Canadians that can teach us about the value and benefit of teamwork. I am speaking of the famous Canada Goose. (Is it a pest or a blessing?) Most of us are familiar with the sight and sound of a V-shaped formation of large birds flying high in the sky accompanied by a loud honking sound. They are actually an amazing lesson in teamwork. Each autumn, as flocks migrate thousands of miles they do not fly alone or randomly. They move together in that familiar formation on purpose. As each goose flaps its wings it creates an uplift for the bird following. This enables them to reduce wind resistance, conserve energy, and travel faster and farther together than they ever could alone. Another interesting lesson from the geese is that the leadership rotates through the flock. When the lead goose grows tired, it falls back and another takes its place. No one goose carries the burden for the whole journey. The shared responsibility enables greater endurance and success. What is also inspiring in geese is their innate sense of loyalty for each other. If one goose is injured or gets sick and falls behind, two others will leave the formation to stay with it until it recovers or dies. Only then will they rejoin the flock. No one is left alone. Scientists also say that even the honking sounds of the geese serve as a form of encouragement to others in the flock. It helps them keep their speed up. So the Canada goose reminds us that cooperation multiplies strength, shared responsibility sustains momentum and loyalty builds community. We can all travel farther and do better together than we can ever do alone. Honk! Honk!

Chaplain Paul returned after successful surgery with a warm welcome from everyone.

We had different speakers and musicians for the month.

Join us every Sunday in the LP Ballroom at 8:50am.

Our Hole was designed like a “ Campsite ” where players had to hit the pickleball into the “ Firepit (box) ”. Players also had a chance to “ shave strokes off their score ” by playing our FMCA National Parks Game. Players drew three National Park tokens out of a bag, and had to name what State each National Park was located in. For every correct answer, they could reduce their score by 1 stroke.
