A Florida Cracker Person born with several generations of life in Florida. The Cracker name came from the early Crackers carrying long buck - skin cow whips, used to control Florida cows and as a means of communications between cow hunters (cowboys). These cattle originated from Spanish. A Florida Cracker can survive off the land. He will life off wild hogs, game fish, and guavas. There aren’t many true Florida Crackers left. - Tommy Mann - (co-author) 1. Keep your word - even when it costs you. Your reputation will follow you everywhere you go. Make sure it’s a good one. If you tell someone you’ll do something, do it even when it gets hard, even when nobody’s watching. People trust those who keep their promises, and trust is worth more than money. 2. Work hard, sweat honest, and don’t expect handouts. Life won’t always be easy, and success won’t fall in your lap. But if you work with diligence and integrity, you’ll build strength that nobody can take away from you. You don’t have to be perfect - you just have to be willing to put in the effort. 3. Respect the land - it feeds you, teaches you, and humbles you. Take time to notice the world around you. Look up at the stars. Watch a sunrise. Walk slow in the woods. You’ll learn more about life from creation than you will from a screen. Respect what God made, and it will teach you wisdom. 4. Be willing - skill can be learned; willingness must be chosen. You don’t have to know everything right now. Nobody does. Just be willing to learn, willing to try, willing to get back up when you fall. A willing heart will carry you further than talent without effort ever will. 5. When you don’t know what to do, don’t do a dagum thing. When life confuses you, and it will, don’t panic. Don’t make decisions out of fear or pride. Slow down. Think. Pray. Some- times the wisest thing you can do is pause until your head and heart are clear. 6. Keep’em green - grow your way to a profit. Don’t try to get ahead by doing the bare minimum. Put effort into becoming someone strong, smart, kind and faithful. Grow your character the same way a good farmer grows a crop - consistent care, season after season. 7. Don’t grow up soft - train yourself to sweat, think, and earn. There is no strength without struggle. Don’t avoid responsibility - take it on. Learn to work with your hands. Solve problems. Accept consequences. Hard things build good character, and good character builds a good life. 8. Honor your family and where you come from. You come from people who were strong, hardworking, and courageous. Remember their stories. Learn from their mistakes. Carry their wisdom forward. Family history isn’t just about the past - it’s helps you know who you are and who you want to become. 9. Stand up when wrong is done - even if you stand alone. Doing what’s right won’t always be popular. But your integrity matters more than fitting in. Be the kind of person who speaks up, defends the weak, and stands firm - whether anyone joins you or not. 10. Treasure your dogs, your horses, and your people. Take care of the ones who walk beside you. Appreciate loyalty. Cherish friendship. Love your family deeply and openly.
