KAPPA ALPHA PSI ® FOUNDATION: MISSION POSSIBLE

The Mission: Building A New Way Forward for the Next Generation of Achievers Studies say that the foundation of future job markets will be STEM-related jobs. In this highly technical society that is becoming more advanced every day, employment opportunities will abound for those who possess expertise and education in science, technology, engineering and math. While the focus on STEM has been increasing over the years, there is still a vast disparity be- tween the number of African Americans in STEM in relation to the numbers of other racial groups. However, with such a considerable focus on STEM areas, professional trade opportunities will also languish. That, along with the removal of Baby Boomers from the workforce, will create a deficit of professional tradesmen. In addition, military service continues to remain another area where professional success is obtainable. The programs that will be created through this campaign will pre- pare young men of color by supporting awareness of opportunities that will en- able them to be successful contributors and participants in the future workforce and economy. “We know that we have a population that is aging and retiring from the work- place, and trade skills such as electri- cians, carpenters, plumbers, builders, etc. Industries will need new, young tal- ent to fill those gaps,” said Dubose. “We must broaden our influence and take the leadership as a fraternity of educated men to influence the next generation of leadership in business, industry and our community.” Funds from this campaign will sup- port programs that promote STEM edu- cation and careers, professional trade careers and military service as a means to empower youth and create economic inclusion for the future.

In addition, the Foundation added to our Board of Direc- tors senior executives from some of the most notable companies in the United States to ensure we have the best minds to help us support the work of our Foundation and our Fraternity. In the future, the Board will continue to reflect a broader and more diverse segment of our community to better represent our program recipients, donors, corporate sponsors and supporters. Dubose, in concert with the Grand Polemarch Reuben A. Shelton III, Esq., created the New Way Forward Capital Campaign to raise funds to permanently establish the existence of critical programs, maintain an effective and efficient infrastructure to manage our philanthropic impact in the African American communities that we serve and to increase awareness of the importance of the Foundation’s work throughout the country.
