SUBDIVISION SITE I NUUAUTIN 2B

SITE SELECTION AND FEASIBILITY ANALYSIS • Lytton First Nation selected Nuuautin IR 2B as the preferred location for this new subdivision based on a subdivision feasibility study, as well as consistency with LFN land use plans, and the comparative lack of archaeological concerns. • The Lytton Lands department, along with a consulting firm, did a land encumbrance check for the selected area, and there was no encumbrance related issues. • Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) funded the Subdivision Feasibility Study to look at two location options for housing: the Battlefield on Inkluckcheen IR 21, and a parcel on Nuuautin IR 2B. • The initial feasibility study identified the need to further examine soil and geohazard conditions on-site to confirm that the site was suitable for construction. Over the course of summer/fall 2023, geotechnical, hydrogeological, geohazard, and hydrology studies were undertaken including extensive fieldwork. An AEW Archaeologist was on site for the preliminary feasibility study. The most significant outcome of this work was the establishment of a geotechnical setback line beyond which no development could be supported. This reduced the developable footprint of the selected site. Nuuautin 2 Reserve has been known to have Lithic Scatter which are flakes on the ground surface and sub-surface. • There is also potential for a Burial Site, Rock Painting, Petroglyphs, pipes, spearheads, or other rare artifacts. • The construction site is adjacent to two registered archaeological sites. This does not preclude the existence of unregistered archaeological sites present. • Nuuautin 2 is an area well known for harvesting Indian Celery also known as Desert Parsley. • The Ponderosa Pine Tree is also known as a home for Wood Worms which is commonly used as bait for fishing methods. • There is also some potential for Cultural Depression such as Cache Pits. • A Field Heritage Technician is on site and monitoring ground disturbance. CULTURAL HERITAGE ANALYSIS • ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS • The subdivision will be located within the Ponderosa Pine very dry hot (PPxh) biogeoclimatic subzone. • Mitigation measures will be done to protect the western rattlesnake during developments. • Active bird nest surveys were conducted prior to site clearing, and no active bird nests were found.
