My name is Kamilah Rodriguez, and I’m a proud Mexican American from Dallas, Texas. Growing up, I was always drawn to the creative arts. I’ve cherished the idea of creating something that others can not only admire but deeply appreciate. My passion for interior design stems from my mother, who worked as a housekeeper for many years. She takes immense pride in her work and always reminds me that im- proving a space can have a positive impact on people’s lives. I’ve carried those values with me and apply them to everything I do.
As a first-generation college student, I am incredibly proud to be pursuing my dreams and building a future that embodies my passion for interior design. Growing up in a small, two-bedroom house with a family of five, I discovered how meaningful it was to dream of spaces where I could express myself. I remember sketching out a closet that led to a secret tunnel, opening up to a cozy room filled with a TV, all my favorite snacks, and a place where I felt free to be me. It was through these imaginative moments that I realized my love for designing spaces—spaces that are not only functional but also make people feel safe, comfortable, and inspired.
Being Mexican American deeply shapes who I am, infusing my work and creativity with cultural richness and a strong sense of family and community. This passion drives me to continue learning about the values and aspects of interior design, so I can create environments that resonate with people and leave a lasting impact.
