BARNDOMINIUM PHOENIX, ARIZONA
PROJECT STATEMENT Welcome to the Richardson family household! This neurodivergent family includes two work-from-home parents, a twelve-year-old daughter with ADHD and anxiety, an eight-year-old daughter with autism, a sixteen-month-old son, and a thirty-four-year-old nanny. They recently bought 6,720 acres in Phoenix, Arizona, to build a barndominium. The barndominium needs to be flexible, homeschool-friendly, have a three-car garage, and be sustainable. The kids love Legos, drawing, and reading. The design vision is inspired by the Phoenix sunset, aiming for a modest, homey, and organized feel. An open layout with neutral colors will help avoid overwhelm, while dim lighting can prevent migraines and overstimulation. Activity rooms with organized storage bins will help the children develop a healthy routine. The goal is to create a healthy environment that supports the children’s development and the parents’ mental health.
