Originally part of Indooroopilly and later a part of Toowong, the history of St Lucia is incredibly vibrant and exciting. Initially featuring numerous sugar plantations established in the 1860s, the suburb was formed when William Alexander Wilson, a West Indian hailing from the town of St Lucia purchased one of these plantations in 1882.
He went on to name this plantation St Lucia, a homage to his hometown.
