reflection, and corporate coaching have been essential tools. “Working on yourself is the best form of leadership training and entrepreneurship resiliency,” she notes. Ninie designed Sun and Waves and is intricately involved in the day to day. Even their children, Ava and Riggs, have found their own ways to get involved. Ava loves helping at Sun & Waves, proudly ringing up customers or putting stickers on items. Riggs, meanwhile, primarily enjoys the treats that come with visiting the family cafe, which could make for a strong start to a college essay. A Commitment to Sustainability At Faherty, sustainability is more than a trend; it’s a core value. From their first product—a swimsuit made from recycled water bottles—to ongoing commitments to low- impact materials, the brand continually seeks to minimize its environmental footprint. Inspired by Patagonia, Faherty launched their own resale platform, A Second Wave, to reduce clothing waste.
Recently, Faherty Brand earned its B-Corp certification, a testament to its commitment to
responsible, ethical practices. “As we’ve gotten bigger, we’ve gotten better at maintaining our footprint. We are constantly looking for ways to get there,” Kerry explains.
Coming Home Now living full-time in Spring Lake, Alex and Kerry are grateful for the peace their hometown brings. They are especially thankful for the chance to raise their children by the water, enjoying beach walks, polar plunges, and surf sessions. “Spring Lake has always been home. It’s the people and the places- everything being so familiar. I think we’re all genetically inclined to go back home. We knew our work schedules would continue to be insane. We wanted to wake up and go to sleep with the peace Spring Lake brings us,” Alex shares. Kerry agrees, “Our cortisol levels dropped every time we were home in Spring Lake. Transitioning here full time was one of the natural progressions in life.” For Kerry, the ocean nearby and a slower pace allows her to continue her passion as a writer. Kerry added “author” to her list of roles with her debut children’s book, Somewhere, Right Now, in 2022. The picture book is a gentle reminder that beauty is always unfolding somewhere. Currently, she’s writing a new prescriptive memoir, The Selfish Wife, set for release by Harmony Publishers in Spring 2026. In the chaos of weekly work travel schedules, the Fahertys savor Sunday dinners, where they cook and reconnect. “Sundays are often when we’re put back together again,” Alex shares. For the future, he dreams of settling deeper into Spring Lake. “I don’t see us ever leaving and that feels good. I’m not restless. I don’t feel like there is any other place we have to be. When I retire, I’m going to manage the Spring Lake store.” The Fahertys’ story is one of family, community, growth, and a shared love for the outdoors. Faherty Brand is a celebration of their life and values, and a tribute to their dreams.
