The Lord's Supper is neither a time for a morbid introspection that leads to self-condemnation nor is it a time for glossing over our poor conduct as we consider what salvation fully means. There should be a frank evaluation as well as a positive commitment for Christ. Matthew, Mark and Luke give us accounts of the institution of the Lord's Supper. In I Corinthians 11, Paul discusses the involvement in this ordinance for the New Testa ment church. Jesus said, "This do in remem brance of me" (vrs. 24, 25). The word "in" used in our English lan guage generally designates a place
or time. Here it is different for it shows a specific purpose. The C reek preposition contains the idea of some basic thought or rea son. Here then is the ultimate end and the real objective for observ ing the Lord's Supper. It is to re member Him! What is the purpose of carrying a picture of your moth er, son, granddaughter or other loved one? Will you forget them if you do not have their likeness with you? Of course not! It is because of your devotion for that person or persons which causes you to en joy looking at them whether near or far. The picture sharpens the image and devotion. So it is with
