should have told you about the FAFSA due date sooner.

familiar with the FAFSA. If you are the first in your family to go to college, it’s highly recommended that you preview the FAFSA with your parents far in advance of the filing date and allow your parents plenty of time to gather the necessary information. Do not spring the FAFSA on your parents at the last minute. Here are some things you can do to familiarize parents with the FAFSA.  Print out the FAFSA. Show it to your parents months before it is due. Mark on the calendar the approximate date you will have to submit the completed FAFSA.  With a parent, go to FAFSA4caster at (search FAFSA Forecaster ) to get an idea of your federal student aid eligibility.  Pay attention to the deadlines! There are federal and state deadlines, and your colleges may also have a deadline.  Create a FAFSA file to which both you and your parents have access. Based on your anticipated college application period, note when you should start gathering the information needed to complete it.  Post a note on the fridge and/or send your parents an email to remind them about the FAFSA deadline.  Create a to-do list for obtaining FAFSA information.  Remind your parents that a new FAFSA has to be filed each year their student is seeking financial aid.
