McDonald’s is another popular international franchise. Franchises can be expensive to buy into, but many are very lucrative. If you name your business anything other than your personal name, you need file a fictitious business name statement with the state. This process is known as registering your “Doing Business As” (DBA) . For example, if you start a bakery business called Awesome Apple Pies, you must file a fictitious business statement revealing that you are the owner of the business since it’s certainly not apparent in the name. Licenses and Permits. Virtually every business needs some form of a business license or permit to operate legally. These can be required by the state or local government, or both.
