DIRECTOR’S As we turn the page to a new year, it's almost impossible to capture how incredible 2024 was for our City and the Miamisburg Parks & Recreation Department. As a community, we celebrated the grand opening of Riverfront Park and made countless memories at special events in that new space such as Spring Fest in the Burg and the Star City Concert Series. Dear Miamisburg Community, In 2024, we welcomed new team members to our Parks & Recreation family, designed innovative activities that enriched our daily lives, and prioritized creating spaces and experiences that define Miamisburg’s unique charm. From community traditions to new milestones, it was a year to remember – and the best part is, we’re only getting started. To revisit all of the great memories from last year with us, check out our 2024 Year in Review via the QR Code below. Looking ahead, 2025 promises to be another extraordinary chapter for Miamisburg. We’re brimming with excitement as we prepare to open new spaces, launch fresh concerts and events and bring back cherished classics like Muddy Mayhem and Starving Artist (look for details this spring). A standout moment this year will undoubtedly be the much anticipated opening of Sycamore Trails Park. This new space, with its remarkable amenities and wide-ranging opportunities, will inspire awe and pride across our community. And that’s just the beginning—we’re expecting to break ground on construction at Sycamore Trails Aquatic Center, a project that reflects our commitment to investing in Miamisburg’s future. But what truly sets Miamisburg apart is how we balance these big, exciting projects with keeping a focus on the everyday joys that define our community. This magazine showcases some of the best programs and updates coming your way over the next few months. Inside, you’ll find every- thing from exciting event details to important updates on the transformative projects we’re bringing to life. From all of us at Miamisburg Parks & Recreation, thank you for an amazing 2024. Your energy, enthusiasm, and support inspire us every day. We can’t wait to create more memories together in 2025—because here in Miamisburg, Great Things are Happening, and the best is yet to come. Here’s to an incredible year ahead!

A NEW EXPERIENCE
Sycamore Trails Aquatic Center Update
The Sycamore Trails Aquatic Center project is moving full steam ahead, with the design phase nearly complete. The next milestone in this transformative journey involves opening the project to public bidding, with contractor selection anticipated in early 2025. Once a contractor is chosen, the construction schedule will come into clearer focus and be finalized. While our goal is to open the new facility by summer 2026, the ultimate timeline will depend on the construction process and overall project costs. The redesign process was shaped directly by community feedback gathered in 2024 through surveys and focus groups. The result is a facility designed for versatility, safety, and enjoyment, featuring five separate bodies of water that can operate independently: the existing splash pad, a new kiddie pool, an exercise and teaching pool, a lap pool, and a recreation pool. This innovative configuration allows for more versatility and efficient use, while ensuring that mechanical issues or health and safety closures in one area won’t necessitate full facility closures. Community input also emphasized retaining popular features like zero-depth entry, which will remain in both the kiddie and recreational pools. The new design balances the family-friendly atmosphere cherished by the community with distinct spaces tailored to different user groups for maximum enjoyment. The facility will feature a variety of attractions to cater to all ages and interests, including a diving board, Aqua Zip-In, splash features, floatable climbers, and an in-water basketball and volleyball area. Enhanced relaxation spaces, such as seating shelves in the recreation and exercise pools, were added to encourage visitors to unwind and relax.
Three new slides, launching from a taller slide tower, will be sure to delight visitors of all ages. Safety remains a top priority, with features like a gated kiddie pool area to provide a secure, separate play area for young children. Responding to community requests for more comfort, the redesign includes approximately 30% more seating and a nearly 200% increase in shaded areas. This state-of-the-art facility represents the next generation of public swimming in Miamisburg, blending recreation, relaxation, and safety in a thoughtfully designed space. As we move into the construction phase, we’ll continue sharing updates and showcasing the many features we’re excited to bring to the community. Thank you for your ongoing support—together, we’re building something extraordinary for generations to come!

POOL AREAS
Parking
One of the most discussed elements of feedback we received was designing separate bodies of water for different user groups, ages, or uses to provide the best visitor experience. The new facility does just that and features 5 independent bodies of water. Splash Pad - The splash pad which was opened in 2023 remains unchanged. The piping, pumps, sanitization and mechanical systems will be updated to allow the splash pad to operate independent of other pool systems. Kiddie Pool - A fenced in space for the little ones & their families. With a zero-depth entry and water depth of 6 inches to 1 foot, this area will have a small tot slide and water playground as well as other splashing fun features. Exercise Pool - Designed to serve a variety of uses this 42’ pool will feature 3 lap lanes, a water vortex and a sitting ledge. The pool will be used for swim lessons and aquatic fitness programming while serving as a space for adults to swim during daily operations outside of the recreation pool. Best yet, all pools are designed to operate independent of one another, allowing for more versatility and efficient use, while ensuring that mechanical issues or health and safety closures in one area won’t necessitate full facility closures. In addition, they provide options for visitors, renters and families to tailor their user experience more to their needs. Recreation Pool - With a zero depth entry on one end and a new and improved slide tower on the other, the recreation pool is where the action is. With a max depth of 3’6” the pool features sitting walls, floatable toys for kids to climb on, a designated in-water basketball and volleyball area and of course new water slides that will be sure to impress. Lap Pool - An independent, 8 lane pool, with water depth from 4’6” to 12’, this pool will feature a diving board, lap lanes that will be open for swimming during daily operations, and both shallow and deep water swimming areas. The lap pool will also feature an Aqua Zip-in (zip-line feature allowing you to swing out and drop into the deep end of the pool).

Shade & Seating
We heard you! More shade and more seating are a must in a redesigned facility! The proposed shade plan includes a significant increase in the amount of shade areas for visitors. Two large shade areas
(one near the splash pad and one between the kiddie pool and recre- ation pool) will provide more shaded areas as well as large cantilever shades throughout the facility will allow visitors to decide if they want a full sun or full shade experience. We are anticipating additional seating capacity for the facility as well. In addition, reservable cabanas will offer the ability to reserve your own shade and seats for your visit. The facility design also includes more seating for users.
Slides & Amenities
The Re-envisioned Experience
Surveys and focus groups told us that the features and ameni- ties in the facility make all the difference.
As a part of any facility redesign you told us to keep the user experience front and center, and that's exactly what we are doing: • Retaining the family-friendly atmosphere • Different areas for different uses provides a choose-your-own-adventure experience • Specially designed places for younger kids and adults • A focus on safety, with separation walls, ropes, and lifeguard stations for maximum visibility • Enhanced concessions experience with ability to serve Sycamore Trails Park • A focus on guest services and first aid - providing a dedicated staff and space to ensure your experience is top-notch • Improved access and accessibility - more accessible restrooms, stairways and chair lifts for each pool to ensure that your visit meets your needs • Sun-shelfs in the pool for a resort-style experience, seat walls for relaxation and enjoyment
The new design includes a new slide tower with three new body-slides, a fully enclosed slide, open slide and plunge slide. In addition the recreation pool boasts climbable floats and an in-water basketball and volleyball area. The lap pool features a diving board and aquatic zip in experience. The kiddie pool provides splashes and play for the little ones and the new splash pad continues to bring all the screams! We think this new design will be loved by all users for its slides and amenities.

Sycamore Trails Park Sycamore Trails Park is undergoing a remarkable transformation, with renovations that promise to elevate its role as a beloved community asset. Among the most significant milestones in the construction to date is the installation of a bridge across Sycamore Creek, a centerpiece of the project that will enhance accessibility between the park’s northern and southern sections. This structure, designed to allow both pedestrians and vehicles to safely cross the creek improves connectivity for vehicles, walkers, bikers, and disc golfers. Once completed, it will serve as both a practical pathway and a scenic highlight of the park’s redesign. In the park’s northern section, paved walking pathways are taking shape, forming a network that will make exploring the park more convenient and inclusive for all visitors. These trails will connect all areas of the park, passing by the newly constructed pond area, designed to serve as a peaceful retreat for relaxation and connection to nature. Nearby, the reservable shelter in the north area of the park is nearing completion and will will offer a versatile space with updated amenities for family gatherings and group outings. Together, these elements will create a welcoming environment that highlights the natural beauty and thoughtful design of the park. Progress is also advancing on the park’s sports courts, restrooms, and playgrounds, which will form the backbone of its recreational offerings. The updated sports courts will cater to basketball, pickleball, and tennis to encourage active lifestyles, while modern restrooms will enhance convenience for visitors. Vibrant playgrounds are being designed to spark joy for children, adding energy and color to the park. Though Sycamore Trails Park remains closed for construction, we anticipate its grand reopening in late summer 2025 when these enhancements will bring the vision of a revitalized, multifunctional Sycamore Trails Park to life.

PARK UPDATES This fall and winter, our parks and facilities crews have been hard at work upgrading various areas across the city. Maintaining our parks, greenspaces, and buildings involves both scheduled and unexpected projects, keeping our staff on the go. Here are some of the projects they’ve completed this fall and winter:
• The Facilities Team added three new staff members. Jeff Hilvers as the Facilities Supervisor, Brett DeVilbiss as the Facilities Crew Leader, and Ron Wilson as Part-Time Facilities Maintenance. Welcome to the team!
• The Parks Team added three new Part-Time Parks Maintenance. Abby Derham, Cesar Eduardo Capestanyro- driguez, and Levi Farster. Welcome to the team!
Community Park
This fall and early winter, parks staff installed new fencing around the resurfaced basketball and pickleball courts in Community Park. Striping for the courts will be completed in the spring. The new fencing will help keep stray basketballs and pickleballs from running across the park and assist in safety during play. Trees have been replaced around the Market Square Building downtown. The trees previously around the building were in bad health and were replaced with maple trees. The Armstrong Gold Maple Trees boast a narrow growth habit, making them the perfect choice for streetscapes while offering ample shade for years to come. Staff have also replaced the shade structure in Runyeon Park. This new shade structure provides a safe gathering space for the community to enjoy new picnic tables, including one designed for use with wheelchairs, and trash cans were also installed with the shade structure. New 1913 engraved stone flood level signs have been installed around the downtown area. This project was created with help from a Miamisburg citizen, Emmett Krueger, who designed the signs himself and brough them to city council. Thank you insert name here for helping to keep Miamisburg beautiful! A new adult changing station has been installed in the restroom at Riverfront Park. This is the first of it’s kind in any Miamisburg Park and was purchased and installed with the help of Montgomery County Board of Developmental Disabilities Services. This table will allow more of our community to use our parks and explore the downtown area. Downtown has been transformed for the holidays! New snowflake lights have been installed along light poles through the downtown area and Main Street. Riverfront Park has also been decorated in holiday lights for the first time.
