My life changed dramatically when I got a job at Shelforce: before I felt unsure of myself and lacked confidence.” For Technical Specialist Floyd Levermore, working at Shelforce means everything. Floyd, who is autistic, has worked at Shelforce for almost 40 years and in that time his life has changed dramatically, thanks to the support and working environment Shelforce has put in place. Floyd’s sister, Carol, says: “Shelforce has given Floyd a supported work environment, outside a family that he loves, and he has thrived. His amazing progress is all down to Shelforce, and it has also challenged our preconceptions about what Floyd is capable of. Shelforce has shown that given the right support the sky is the limit. “There are so many aspects of life where his disability makes navigating and understanding the world so difficult for Floyd, but being at Shelforce gives him focus, freedom, purpose, confidence and financial independence.”

high quality, professionally engineered, products in a competitive market and at Shelforce, it’s all about ability, not disability. “We are trying to get other companies within our industry to adopt our employment model and the King’s Award for Enterprise and our success is the perfect advert for that.” The Award comes four decades after The Princess Royal, HRH Princess Anne officially opened its current factory in Erdington in 1984, meaning that Shelforce has the royal seal of approval again, 40 years on.
