Advise Estates on appropriate forms of contract for construction projects, liaising with the university’s legal advisors as necessary and keeping the department abreast of developments in the construction industry. 10.Advise Estates on commercial /contractual matters including, but not limited to such things as payment certification, project completion, LADs etc. Leading the Capital Project Work of the Estates Team 1. Provide expert project management advice within Estates & Sustainability for the programme of construction related projects. Work in accordance with Estates’ Project Management procedures and processes,

ensure that project managers devise project plans and resourcing schedules for the execution of all projects forming the Estate Capital Programme. Input into the development and improvement of these processes. 2. Provide expert advice and professional opinion on the full range of construction project management matters. Procure expert consultant advice where necessary. 3. Ensure Estates Client Representatives engage actively with consultants and contractors to determine that projects are delivered to time, budget, quality and agreed performance levels and that the day-to- day needs of the University are maintained in respect to health & safety, security, car parking, access control etc. Liaise closely with KUSCO, I&TS etc. to ensure programmes of work are coordinated. Ensure minimal disruption to the ongoing operation of the University. 4. Lead by example by taking on the Estates Client Representative role for key projects, demonstrating to others how this role should be collaboratively discharged. 5. Set the Estates standards for project and programme management. The post holder will monitor the management of all Estate Capital Programme projects, pre-empt changes in project management approaches in the sector and anticipate future direction. The post holder will demonstrate continuous professional development (CPD) in project management, acquiring and refining personal skills on an ongoing basis.

6. Manage external programme managers and programme cost managers directly reporting to you, and co-ordinate the work of all the Estates Client Representatives relating to the Estate Capital Programme. 7. Have a good working knowledge of health and safety rules, regulations and legislation. Work closely with the University’s Health, Safety & Security Office, KUSCO staff, and others as necessary, to create safe working systems and environments for contractors, university staff, students, and visitors to the University. Closely manage contractors to confirm their systems are fully applied. 8. Maintain all relevant records using and enhancing Estates records and processes, Provide timely and accurate and management reporting (including cost reporting) for internal and external purposes. 9. Carry out post project implementation evaluations as a matter of course, ensuring that design quality is addressed. 10.Work with the University to devise ways in which Estates can contribute to the education of built environment students. 11. Deputise occasionally for senior colleagues, including attending public meetings and events to represent Estates & Sustainability. These events are sometimes in the evenings. Assist the Associate Director of Capital Projects as and when required, and act on their behalf during periods of absence. General To All Estates Programme Manager and Project Manager Roles 1. Manage own workload and priorities and those of the project team/s to ensure realistic delivery expectations are effectively met.

2. Work pro-actively to mitigate potential risks to both individual project and overarching programme success and ensure any such risks are flagged appropriately. 3. Network with staff and students across the University and always acting as a champion for Estates & Sustainability. 4. Participate in or lead on such other events or ad hoc projects as may be required by the Associate Director of Capital Projects. 5. Contribute to and actively encourage knowledge sharing and up-skilling opportunities across all teams. 6. Ensure that all project documents are managed in accordance with estates document management processes. All documents must always be filed centrally. Estates is a collaborative department so electronic filing must be done regularly rather than allowed to accumulate. 7. Take reasonable care of your own health and safety, and that of other persons that may be affected within the relevant working environment, in accordance with the University Health and Safety procedures and ensure that contractors meet and comply with current Health and Safety regulations. 8. Occasionally work outside of normal office hours where projects require that. Role as part of the Estate and Sustainability Team As a senior member of the Estates and Sustainability team, this role plays a crucial part in contributing towards delivery of strategies, policies, and decision-making.
