undue operational impact on the University’s teaching and research activity. • Ensure that Estates & Sustainability has excellent project management processes which are sufficiently robust to ensure transparency and consistency and will bring significant construction commercial expertise to the department. • Identify and manage inter-project dependencies across the Estates project portfolio. • Have sufficient insight of project risks, issues, and constraints to be able to manage these across the list of concurrent projects. • Actively seek out and refresh information from the Estates project teams to provide assurance to the University that the overall Estates programme goals are being achieved. • Personally lead delivery of a small number of appropriate projects, in the role of Estates Client Representative or Project Manager. This role leads critical work to ensure capital construction improvements are effectively managed, driving delivery of identified improvements to the physical infrastructure and directing high quality support to strive for full compliance with required legal, regulatory, and best practice standards across the university environment. Working closely with the Strategic Operational Lead for Sustainability, the role also keeps informed of environmental compliance in construction delivery and relevant policy and regulations in these areas. The success of this role will be evidenced by delivery against agreed Estate Capital Programme in line with objectives set by the Associate Director of Capital Projects. Accountabilities Financial and Commercial Management 1. Demonstrate skill and expertise delivering multiple construction projects in ‘live’ operational campus environments with high footfall and within occupied buildings. 2. Manage and co-ordinate capital projects, to ensure joined-up thinking across projects. Consider the project implications of changing future scenarios. 3. Have sound financial skills and commercial ability, and have demonstrable knowledge of cost management and project management for the scale of projects anticipated to form the Estates Capital Programme. 4. Provide regular reports to the University’s senior management team in respect of time, cost, and quality parameters for all capital projects. Lead project reporting to the University’s Estate Committee and other relevant committees, including the preparation of reports and presentations. 5. Role Profile: Capital Projects Manager Reports to: Associate Director of Capital Projects Purpose of the Role The Estates and Sustainability directorate exists to support Kingston University’s academic mission and the goals set out in its strategic plan. It leads on strategic planning, capital development, space management, operational sustainability, energy management and biodiversity management as well as statutory compliance and operation of the campuses and premises used by the university. It provides direction for the operation, facilities maintenance, and management of the estate by KUSCO (Kingston University Service Company) - a wholly owned subsidiary of the University. The Capital Projects Manager provides leadership in the following key areas. This role will: • Lead and line manage the construction project management team within Estates and Sustainability. • Have strong project management, design and financial management capability and use this to lead the team to ensure effective delivery of projects in line with agreed budgets, timescales and design quality. • Direct the KU Finance Business Partner and the consultant Programme Cost Manager (currently RLB), this role will analyse and report on the financial performance of programmes and projects. It will provide expert input into the processes of project initiation and project business planning and of selecting appropriate forms of contract for consultant and contractor appointment. • Provide individual Estates Client Representatives or project managers with a programme perspective and lead a proactive approach to (1) solving project issues and (2) seamlessly integrating the projects that form the Estates programme and (3) avoid
