A feedback culture is about what is right not who is right.

FEEDBACK IS HOW WE GROW FACT 24
BE A GRATEFUL AND GRACEFUL FEEDBACK APPRECIATOR. It’s not always easy to respond to feedback nicely – we are often quick to defend ourselves. But if we can take a moment, and a breath or two - THERE ARE 3 THINGS THAT CAN HELP ENORMOUSLY.
Research conducted by Hubspot in 2020 found that not getting feedback makes most people feel disengaged at work. 92% of respondents said that good feedback was the key to helping them to do better in their role.
1. Listen TO UNDERSTAND
2. Ask QUESTIONS TO CLARIFY
3. Summarise & REFLECT
US educator Steven Covey has said that most people don’t listen with the intent to understand, they listen with the intent to reply. People are either speaking or preparing to speak. Be present when your feedback gift giver is sharing their thoughts, don’t use the time they’re speaking to think of an excuse or explain away what they’re telling you.
Show your feedback gift giver that you have understood them by relaying back what they’ve shared with you. If you’ve understood them, you’re halfway there. Now, it’s time to reflect and examine how you can action your gift. A good way to do this is to action their advice immediately - with the next person you speak with or the next task you complete.
Again, use your questions to more
deeply understand the feedback, not to reject their insights.
