Heartist 2022 Book

BEING THE REAL DEAL MEANS THAT WE DON’T PRETEND THINGS ARE OK, WHEN THEY ARE NOT. Heartists know that we all have good days and bad days, and we also know that when things aren’t right - when someone is in emotional pain or a difficult situation - that telling them to be positive, does not help. In fact, it makes it worse. This is called toxic positivity. Being the real deal is about knowing that it’s ok to be you, it’s about self-compassion and taking time to recover, because suppressing our difficult emotions can actually make them worse. BEING THE real deal WITH BOTH THE HIGHS & LOWS.

TOXIC - POSITIVITY

BEING REAL ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH. A survey by RUOK? in 2018 found that 80% of people working in hospitality are concerned about mental health issues like depression and anxiety. As Heartists we want everyone to feel safe to talk about what matters – and mental health matters – every day of the year. We are here to listen. We are here to help. Access our Accor Employee Assistance Program. Talk to your manager, a trusted colleague or reach out to your Talent & Culture leaders if you need support. Local support services are available in your country and might include services such as BeyondBlue, Lifeline, Mensline, Headspace, Black Dog Institute, NAMI Hawaii, HealthLine and Samaritans, to name just a few.

Toxic positivity is expecting everyone to always be upbeat , no matter what is going on in their days and lives. Being the real deal is not about toxic positivity.
